SEPTEMBER 9, 2012 @ 01:23 PM

As the days grow warmer, creepy crawlies come out to play. I found my favourite kind all over the garden today, and molested them for about 10 minutes, all in the name of this blog.

We call them ‘shongololo’ here, which is (I think) a Zulu world for, in my opinion, super cute millipedes. The red ones are pretty common, while the black ones (Giant African Millipede) are a bit harder to find. They’re completely harmless and the worst that could happen would be getting millipede poo on yourself if you’re not gentle while handling the little buggers. Apparently, people with sensitive skin can get allergic reaction to the stinky substance that they release when very upset, but I never had any problems.

I had to suffer a whole lot of tickling to get these photos for you, so you better appreciate them. ARRR!!!

Not much change. Seems to show signs of weakness in his back legs when he's walking occasionally, but still jumps onto chairs and kitty bed platforms. Still wandering across the street and, I presume, eating cat food they put out for their cat. A generally subdued kitty at this point.

Those are pretty awesome and shiny. I do like the red and black bands. Those are a LOT bigger then the pillbugs I used to play with.
