I love reading and I’m one of those people who don’t sleep at night when they get their paws on a book that they particularly enjoy. In fact, I often read more than one book at the time ‘cause I just can’t decide which one I want to read first.
The books I prefer are generally fantasy and science fiction, for a very simple reason – that’s how I get away from the reality of everyday life. It’s been like that for as long as I can remember. I started with Grimm brothers and Hans Christian Andersen, then moved onto Mark Twain and Jules Verne and eventually onto whatever caught my attention and had about 0% reality in it.
I do read a lot of cheesy stuff that can only be called paranormal romance (vampires, werewolves, fairies and that sort of stuff), but that’s one of my few guilty pleasures. Many of the books in that genre are a bit trashy, to say the least. A girl meets whatever supernatural being, they try to resist each other, there’s a bit of trouble, a bit of book porn and a nice happily ever after. Or he eats her and she goes all supernatural too. So yeah, Twilight kind of thingy for adults.
But, every now and then I’ll find a rare book that will leave me crying for more. The last special one I came across is Angelfall by Susan EE.
It’s fairly new and not many people have read it or heard about it. Ha, suckers!
No worries, there’s no corny romance, no lovey-dovey in this book. In fact, it’s dark, realistic, scary, and even gruesome at times. Despite all that, it leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling of content after you’ve finished the last page. Oh, that and screaming ‘I want more’ while frantically searching the Internet for the release date of the next book in the series.
I don’t want to give away too much, just in case you decide to read it, but it’s about a seemingly very ordinary girl living in the nightmare of a post apocalyptic world. And it’s a nasty one! The story is fast paced, full of heart-wrenching twists, entertaining dialogs (had me choking from laughter more than once) and two characters that you have no choice but to adore. I can’t recommend it enough, but I can tell you it was so good that I read it twice in a week, and even I (almost) never do that.
The next instalment doesn’t even have a release date yet, but I’ve got my email alert all set up and I’m hoping it will come out before Diablo 4 does.
