O great Pelican of Eternity
that piercest thy breast for our food
we are thy fledglings who cannot know thy woe.
Bless this shadowy food of substance
whose last eater shall be worm
and feed us rather
on the visionary food
of dreams and grace.

hmm and I think there is a wise wood pigeon lord too, he stands on the Silver Birch outside my window.

"Beware the Raven that stands alone, the one that watches and waits,
Beware that unguarded moment, that subtle twist of fate.
It may just be the eyes of the Crow man".

You see a group of dancers in the street
Dressed up to look like chimney sweeps.
But under the feathered hats and ragged clothes
There hides the Crow man.

Faces blackened out so you cant see
The colour of the soul that lies beneath.
Behind the painted masks that hides their faces.
There hides the Crow man.

People gather round to cheer them on
And laughing joins in the dancing throng.
Unaware of the dark side behind it
They don't know what's really going on.
It's part of a ritual from the past
The dance of the Crow Man

Down through the ages down through the years
At springtime the crow man will always appear.
To feed the earth with the blood of the chosen
To ensure life's circle for the following season!
To replenish the earth by the taking of life
In the Crow mans ritual blood sacrifice!

In the crowd he'll see a person all alone
And point with an ancient Runic stone.
The spell is cast and only death awaits them
No one to miss them when they're gone
With no family to mourn or to care
They're now part of the Crow man.

Yes, that's the one I mean. I've seen some of her other books around, but What Remains is the one I can never find, except for some used copies on Amazon and such. I think I'll just get one of those anyway.

Speaking of birds in windows, a family of finches claimed the little tree outside my den window. A pleasant sight, but an even prettier sound.

See you around.

I figured, given your interests you may have read Crow, but I thought I'd send it over to you just in case - I wouldn't want you to go without wink As for Vivre se vie, I haven't seen it. I have, however, seen Elogie De L'amour as my only other contact with Godard and it was toe-curlingly awful! I enjoy being challenged (as in Weekend) and I enjoy willfully obtuse cinema (Weekend) but Elogie was dull and incoherent where Weekend was breathless and tense. As for Vivre se vie I think it's supposed to fall in the Weekend category of his work, ie, masterpiece although the supersaturated filming you mentioned did remind me of Elogie. I will have to check it out because, having being put off by his later works, I'm now pretty keen to plow through his heyday.

Also, I don't know if you saw it in my blog. But you should check out Mother and Son by Sokurov. I was a big fan of Russian Ark but I think this is better although completely different. Instead of RA's epic panorama, this is a painfully intimate moment of a son tending and reminiscing with his dying mother. The filming looks like an oil painting which Sokurov achieved through using oil on glass filters to shoot through and the result is literally sublime.

Well, anyway, take care, I've got to go and sling some webs wink

Ha, no probs. You didn't get the film. Well, that makes two of us. I have a real love/hate relationship with French Cinema. I was talking to a friend about this the other night. I think French cinema, as the antithesis of Hollywood cinema (pop videos), kind of goes so far in the other direction that it sometimes meets Hollywood coming backwards. Hollywood's got guns and explosions and French cinema's got philosophy. And both tend to use and abuse them with equal abandon. When French cinema gets it right it's transcendent and when it gets it wrong it is just willfully obtuse, pretentious and arrogant. I think Eloge (I think I was spelling that wrong) was a mess of faux philosophy and underbaked musings. That's what I thought anyway. It actually managed to wind me up.

I left the cinema pining for Will Smith!!!!!!! wink
