I've had a kind of cold/chest or throat infection for two weeks. I think today its finally starting to clear. I probably should have gone to the doctors when the cough turned severe but I was hoping if I left things it would kill me

Whew good thing you never went to a doctor who knows what harsh medicine those quacks would've provided Your own voice is said to be the best healing cure for most anything but I doubt that would be the solution when you have a sore throat. Glad to hear you've made a full recovery
