When we wonder why that summer is in our memory so unique and neverending, we find it hard to speak in the sober way that is proper to the revelations of life. Usually, when we talk about that summer it's like we were holding it in our power. Truth is, she had the complete control of us. Today, it's unquestionable the finite nature of that miracle, today that the charm that could hold us together for a lifetime was gone as well as a sentence, a formula, a faith bonding us. This made us become free and isolated human beings, free of staying or leaving. Today, it seems like we don't know a harsher pain than keeping alive in us the feelings of that summer.

Quando ci domandiamo perchè quell' estate per noi si riveli nel ricordo unica e senza fine, ci riesce difficile trovare il tono sobrio che è il solo adeguato alle rare rivelazioni a cui la vita ci espone. Per lo piu, quando parliamo di noi di quell' estate, facciamo come se l' avessima avuta in pugno. La verità è che fu lei ad averci in pugno, e a fare di noi quello che voleva. Oggi che è indubbia la natura finita di quel miracolo, oggi che si è volatilizzato l' incantesimo capace di tenerci insieme a vita- una frase una formulauna fede che ci legavano, la cui scomparsa ci trasforma in esseri isolati, liberi di restare o di andarsene: oggi sembra che non conosciamo struggiamento piu doloroso, piu forte, che mantenere vivi in noi i giorni e le notti di quell' estate.
