My mac died after 4 years. It's awful. I saved my stuff often but not this last week, after I worked so much for my subtitling and dubbing exams. And it's like 4 years of my life disappearing.

Now I have to find a mean to have another one like... this week. My exams begin on the 17th.

I'm mad, I'm sad.

If the operating system is just blown up and the hard drive itself hasn't failed, you should be able to recover your data by slaving the old hard drive to another machine and copying the data over. It's pretty easy to do with PC's, but I don't have any Mac-specific knowledge.

As 78walk says - if you are able to get another mac, or have a friend that you can borrow one from - if its just the operating system - you can connnect your old mac up to the new one with a usb cable, turn on the the new mac, then turn on the old - and i think you hold the 't' button down - not sure. Then it should open it up like a target harddrive - and then you can get whatever you need off it like that. and then you can reinstall your operating system and your mac should be fine and dandy again. (i think thats how i did it - was about 4 years ago. I called the apple support care people, as the applecare insuranse covers stuff like that as well - they are there foe help and info also!! If not - I am sure the website has info on this)

My mac died after about 7 years - i did the thing above, and then it worked fine. Managed to save all my old stuff off it as well. But by this point, I had convince my dad to get me a nice new mac, so I had no need for the old bubble one. Sad times.

That's too young to die. Unless it's the hard-disk that's died you can always take out the hard disk and connect it to another Mac to copy your data. As long as it's not an old white iBook the hard disk is quite easily accessible.
Give me a shout if you need advice on how to do it.

did you back any of your information up? you might want to go to a Mac center and get that done so that you can transfer that data to your new computer.

Sucks that it broke girl, can anyone lend you one for the meantime?
