When I am in the Kitchen
by Chrysis
I think about the past. I empty the ice-cube trays
crack-crack-cracking like bones, and I think
of decades of ice cubes and of John Cheever,
of Anne Sexton making cocktails, of decades
of cocktail parties, and it feels suddenly far
too lonely at my counter. Although I have on hooks
nearby the embroidered apron of my friend's
grandmother and one my mother made for me
for Christmas 30 years ago with gingham I had
coveted through my childhood. In my kitchen
I wield my great aunt's sturdy black-handled
soup ladle and spatula, and when I pull out
the drawer, like one in a morgue, I visit
the silverware of my husband's grandparents.
We never met, but I place this in my mouth
every day and keep it polished out of duty.
In the cabinets I find my godmother's
teapot, my mother's Cambridge glass goblets,
my mother-in-law's Franciscan plates, and here
is the cutting board my first husband parqueted
and two potholders I wove in grade school.
Oh, the past is too much with me in the kitchen,
where I open the vintage metal recipe box,
robin's egg blue in its interior, to uncover
the card for Waffles, writ in my father's hand
reaching out from the grave to guide me
from the beginning: "sift and mix dry ingredients"
with his note that this makes "3 waffles in our
large pan" and around that our, an unbearable
round stain—of egg yolk or melted butter?—
that once defined a world.

We certainly had a smashing good time shooting this set on a rooftop in downtown Nashville overlooking all that Nashville has to offer. Lorelei and I were both freezing cold this day, I believe it was somewhere in the vicinity of 20 degrees outside and there was still snow on the ground but we worked through it and ended up having a lot of fun. Hope you all enjoy.

Time moves by so much faster when you're busy. I like it. School is taking up so much of my time, it's hard to think outside of venipuncture, catheter drips, and anatomy. I'm so in love with it all, though. I definitely made the right decision, which is comforting and exciting
My friend from school and I like to play on chatroulette during lunch to pass the time.

Thank you to everyone who left such nice comments about my Tattoo feature! It was super rad to be in a magazine for the first time, and I even sent a copy to my mom. Her and my dad both liked it, and my dad commented that "he was glad I was wearing as much as I was" for the photos.
!!!
So my parents know about SG now, I suppose. More weight off my shoulders! They didn't come right out and say it, but considering I mention SG in the article, I think they're pretty aware of my miscreant doings. But since we have strict a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, that's fine by me
I don't have much time to be fun and be a real person anymore, which is kind of a bummer. But when I do, I tend to have fun.
Cinco de mayo was amazing and hilarity ensued.

My roommates and I draw mustaches on ourselves every year. Well, for the past two years. But still. It ain't cinco de mayo without the dirtiest 'stache you got!

Look at my puppy now! He's 40 pounds and still growing!

He's such a little monster.
So a lovely SG member REW7584 is a really amazing artist. He made this portrait of me based on my most recent set.

I was blown away. It turns out, he has a clothing company based here in Ohio called Rockeverywhere Apparel & Arts, and he sent me some super rad t-shirts and I figured it was the least I could do to take some pictures in them. I'm sorry they're webcam pics, but my canon rebel battery charger seems to have misplaced itself
[I'm wearing a size SMALL in all of these, if that gives you an idea of sizing]
The first one is this awesome "Early Worm" tee. I giggled when I saw the little bro hats on some of them haha.

Buy this shirt here!
The second one is a super duper rad unisex tee in one of my favorite colors.

Buy this shirt here!
The last one is my favorite, because it has a big 'ol Ohio on the front, and this place is growing on me pretty nicelike.

Buy this shirt here!
I hope ya'll take a look at the other stuff on the site, there's a lot of really neat accessories, badass owl pillows, and other awesome tee shirts/hoodies.
RockEVERYWhere Apparel!!
As far as t-shirts go, SG member Swayze_ also made me an incredible shirt based on my hand tattoos. Her husband Gonzilla made the design (he's done a similar hand tattoo design based on Pilot's tattoos too] and she turned it into a lovely, super comfy shirt

I can't describe my love for Alissa in words, so I'll do it in pictures.
Her husband Durb Morrison is an exceptional tattoo artist and has been revolutionizing the way artists tattoo with new steel tipped disposable tattoo tubes. They're called "True Tubes" and you're not cool unless you use them
Check out the True Tube Facebook page!
Radeo, Patton, and I did a shoot with Alissa for True Tube ads and they are going to be super epic. We had our makeup and hair did up all pretty like

Alissa has been on a Polaroid kick lately, and mine and Radeo's pictures came out almost the exact same because we're like, really cool.

Besides True Tubes, we shot another little ditty that is apparently coming to a site near you on June 16

(if you've been paying attention, you'll notice the same dresser in the set pics and my webcam shirt pics. first set shot in my own room! stoked!)
Oh, and I got Delta tattooed on my leg. That's right. I'm THAT person.
