Absinthe

Is there any drink that you drank so much of and got ill with, that you can barely stand the smell anymore?
I'm like that with warm vodka. I drank it in the morning of a stag weekend once and I swear the smell of it now just makes me want to vomit.

I put myself off gin for quite a while by getting caned on it for about 3 days at leeds festival. I still try to avoid it now, drinking too much of it makes me *really* ill.

It's not, but you have a 90% chance of it not being checked by customs if you have it shipped in.

nah it's all legit now in the states as of September, i just happen to get the last bottle from Jersey a few days ago though, it goes fast!

yup lucid and Kübler can be found in liquor store, still kind of hard to find. though but yes you can buy it legally now!

i've only had fake absinthe -- would love to try the real deal. fake absinthe is weak!

While I hadn't heard about the sales ban being lifted, it's not going to be flagged even if Customs did check it. I declared the absinthe I brought back from Italy and they cared not a jot.

by the way, after doing a little more research, it's not "all legit now". The U.S.'s legal tolerances only allow brews with 10 parts per million or less in thujone content. Some absinthes will make that cut, but some wine and bitters based absinthe will not, as they can contain thrice that amount or more.

Aww this makes me sad. I was in Italy for 2 weeks and searched all over and couldn't find it.
I think I will try to order some offline, hopefully it's the real thing.

As did I when I was there 3 years ago, elusive bastard to find, but I did manage to find La Feé in the 8th wine shoppe I checked in Florence. I can vouch that the La Feé brands are legit.

yes that is true they make it legal by allowing only 10ppm or 25mg/kg which is only roughtly 5-10ppm on what you can get easly in europe and canada.

now on the importing issue, the ban on absinthe has always been on the manafacturing and selling it in the US.

IT never has been on having or drinking it, so yes you can import it legally. There are places in europe mostly in swiss, checkovakia, and lithuania that do sell it with upto 100mg/kg. though those bottle normally go over 150 per 50cl bottles plus shipping of about 30-50 bucks.

so in short if you want to pay out your ass for the higher thujon stuff you can and you can do it legally. in the us it's only about 50 or so a liter, currently you can easly get it in NJ NY and one other state in the midwest that i know of.
