Ok from my Favorite Alcohilic beverage post I see we have a few Absinthe drinkers. I get mine from Alandia.net, the Moulin vert. Its a 68% alc. really good stuff. Next question is...how many of you do the traditional sugar and water mix and how many drink it stright or otherwise. Ill do mine straight but when I lived in Okinawa i found that make a Long Island Iced tea and add a shot of Absinthe and you get something that tastes like an Orange cream scicle.

Its an alcoholic beverage with an herb in it called wormwood that gives it a strong licorice flavor and contains amounts of a chemical compound called Thujone that has mild hallucinogen properties. when taken properly it's possible to experience a mild high but the trick is to balance out the thujone and the alcohol...other wise you just end up drunk and laying in pool of nuclear green vomit.

We've recently got it in at work, and we've got through 3 and a half bottles of it...I haven't sold a single shot to a customer, my boss just drinks it all himself.

It's actually fairly difficult to find a modern version with real wormwood in it. If you have, good job.

i actually had a wonderfully visual experience drinking it with the sugar and water method - we were on a friend's apartment rooftop amidst the city skyline with the sun going down...

it was incredible..

I really wanted to smuggle some back from Prague this summer, but...I was traveling with my parents and could you imagine how lame it would be if you got busted for trying to smuggle a small bottle of absinthe when you're 17 and you have to deal with your parents on the flight home?

So...basically I bok ed out.

its only illegal to sell it in the states. its not illegal to possess absinthe even if it contains thujone.

i drink the stuff very rarely, usually in a good wheat beer (like sierra crystal wheat). i still think thujone cannot be good for you in large quantities.

Absinthe is responsible for the only auditory hallucination I've ever had.

I was "bartending" at a con in Raleigh and desperately wishing this fellow who was dumping his life story on me would hush, and sipping on my fourth or fifth glass of the night, when suddenly his words were blotted out by the sound of a locomotive, blowing its horn and silencing everything in the room.

"Oh no, it's the drunk train," I thought.

Don't remember anything after that. I'm said to have acted shamefully.
