I buy books all the time, but I usually get rid of them after reading them UNLESS I think I'll read a book again. I'd say I've owed well over a thousand books in my lifetime...if not hitting the 1500 range.

I'm a bookworm, what can I say?

not enough...but more than I can be bothered counting. And that's before I get into the comics.
It's still not enough. More books, more!!!

yeah... whenever i succumb to the urge to buy a book, i always tell myself, "well self," (that's what i say to myself), "well self, it' could be a crack habit."

The proper word for the number of books I have is "a fuckload".

I'm in the same boat with Libella. I deliberately got rid of all my hardcovers simply because they're too heavy to tote around with me when I move frequently.

However, my collection is growing once more. I will soon need more shelves.

I think it would break my heart to get rid of any books. I get attached to things like that. Also, I have the worst memory ever, so I always have to re-read.

Hardback or paperback?

I just bought somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 Star trek novels a couple of weeks ago.

And that's adding to an already "stupid-big" collection.

I lost count after 500. I'd guess somewhere around 700. I haven't read all of them, but I've looked through all of them and read most of them. Getting rid of people has always been easier for me than getting rid of books. I'm sure that's bad, but my books don't mind.

Below are a couple pics that constitute about half of the books I had at my last apartment in DC. I'd say these constitute maybe 5% of my books altogether. All I can say is, thank god for the parents' garage...

Edited to add: Incidentally, my collection pales in comparison to my dad's -- he has a couple dozen full bookshelves about that size lining his study, and more than that in boxes and in "the stacks" (about a dozen utility shelves lining the walls of a walk-in closet off the master bathroom). Apparently, being a packrat bookworm is a genetic trait...

I have quite a lot of books, and well over 100 audiobooks....

I don't listen to music when I walk or take the train, listen to books

it's so good to see that i'm not the only one that owns a shit-ton of books just for the sake of having them. it's hard for me to strip down my collection and get rid of any books, i'd rather just find a bigger house that can accomodate my habit.

alas, that takes more money than i'll have for a long time.

random idea: anyone here have books they want to get rid of, and anyone up for a "book trade" sort of deal?

just a thought....

In 2000 I counted my comics and I had a little over 6200 so I probably have about 7000 or so now. I also have over 3200 magazines when I last counted in 2000 and finally at last count in 2000 just a little shy of a thousand books. Yes I have read them all. It is never enough though.. smile (you know it's bad when you converted the second bedroom into a storage room...) I love reading. love My pride and joy though is an encyclopedia of the occult published in the mid 1880's and a cook book from the 1890's.

Aside from technical books, I use the library or sell after I've read them. Why keep books? Unless you read them constantly, what's the point?

300 maybe? It's two bookshelves worth, I counted about 30 books on one shelf and there are 10 shelves...

I recently rediscovered the joys of new books but I haven't bought many recently. Most of the books I have I got through Bookcrossing.

I'm with the "can't bear to surrender a book" crowd. Unless it's trading for other books. I have shelves, crates, stacks, and boxes.

Does there need to be a point?

Go for it biggrin I will say that the idea of leaving books in the wild is fun, but private trades between other bookcrossers can be a lot more satisfying wink There's a companion wishlist site too if you're interested. And Bookrelay and... you get the picture wink
