In 1958 Avro produced the most advanced jet fighter on earth, The Arrow. They build and flew 5 and had an assembly line with 7 or so others partly complete.
On febuary 20th 1959 Prime Minister Diefenbaker cancelled the project. 14,528 employees were laid off that day. Within two months, all aircraft, engines, production tooling and technical data were destroyed. The picture is complete fighter jets being cut apart with blow torches.

Whilst browsing for movies tonight, the first I came across was entitled The Pig Farmer. Turns out, it's about Canadian serial-killer Robert Pickton.
Looks straight out of the boonies, doesn't he.
