This is most likely why they changed the shape. For some reason or another attaching the word "New" to something make people want to buy it. However, you're only allowed to call something new for a limited amount of time (a year I think). Many products are regularly changed just enough to be able to stick a "new" on the front of the box.
So if I stick a "new" label on the front of my "box" then I'm sure to attract more customers?
