This is my unofficial rant that student loanage sucks!

Either they wont give you loans because you dont have "enough" credit, or they all of a sudden start billing you for past loans with no warning...(e.g. I got a bill today for $350, saying that I never paid my first bill, last month, and they're sending it to collections. I never GOT said bill.)

Grr. mad

Try the citiassist loan, it's a really high apr but you can consolidate with salliemae or astrive after you finish school. They, amazingly, approved me.

citiassist? like through citibank?

Only thing is, I only have about a year's worth of credit. They usually want more. And I have no cosigner.

you'd think they'd make this easier...

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I'm feelin the love.

Oh thank God I live in England where you just get your student loan from the government and done with it.

Oh shit, I owe Gordon Brown money.

Yeah, we may criticise our system when we're within it, but it's actually a very good system when compared to others.

That said, I'm on the old system and don't have to start paying back until I earn the national average!!

We do too with Stafford loans and stuff but it sounds like she's trying to get extra money to cover the extra costs that the government doesn't cover.

Also, universities in the UK have a hardship fund for students with extra financial problems. Some of this money is a grant, and therefore non-repayable. All of this money has to be given out otherwise it goes back to the central funding body to be redistributed the following year and the University may receive a reduction in hardship funding the following year. Loads of universities got into trouble a few years ago for being too strict when means testing these grants which led to students quitting courses 3 or 4 months away from graduation.

I was lucky to get one of these otherwise I wouldn't have graduated either.

I can't get government money. The wouldn't let me fill out a FAFSA. So I'm pretty much trying to get money for school, period.

Why wouldn't they let you fill out a FAFSA? That seems really weird

Why wouldn't they let you? That doesn't make sense. Unless you have a drug conviction or something. confused

Not lived in the country long enough?

(my friend Dannie can't get a loan because she lived in Switzerland for five years before uni... her parents have to pay for everything. Luckily, they're rich.)

Nope. I'm no longer in contact with my parents, they disowned me. I aplied for an independency override, but they wouldn't give me one. Hence I couldn't fill out a FAFSA.
