Seriously... I am having a quater life crisis of sorts... my relationship ended... my parents/remaining family are leaving the state due to the failing auto industry and 92% of my close friends have moved out of state anyway for jobs.... where is nice???

I am just ready for an adventure!

I rather like the NoVA area. Traffic is kinda sucky, but there's lots to do and see.

NOT Melbourne, Florida.

And I feel ya on the Auto Industry. The last company I worked for was owned by Ford. I got out of there quick. Poor Ford.

I really like San Diego California. Its a little expensive. But the city has do much opporunity and potential. The weather is perfect.

Chicago is great. Still has that midwest feel but big city amenities.

North/west New Jersey or the Jersey shore. Before you assume its full of pollution and crazy people who wear wife beater tank tops and sweat pants all the time consider this:
Never more then a 3 hour drive from a beach (or shore if your from NJ). Our beaches have the best boardwalks. Never more the 3 hours from NYC Philly and DC. Not to mention you can gamble in Atlantic City or make a trip north to one of the casinos in upstate New York. Diner capital of the country. We have some of the best pizza in the country. I like the Deleware river valley because then I'm never to far from PA if I need to escape. We have Wawa's. We have nice winters and mild summers. We have mountains, pine forests, history, trails, rivers and an entire magazine about how Weird NJ is. If travel is your thing we are close to several major airports. Delaware is always good for a laugh especially if you want to get some stuff with no sales tax. Overall the best thing about NJ is that were surrounded by great places to go. Live here, work and play anywhere you like.

That being said there are some real shitholes in NJ. But that goes for any state. But the rivers are clean now. Crime is low in most areas but I think Camden is still one of the car theft capitals of the world.

Ireland.

Their economy has been doing well since the mid 90's. The people are friendly and nice. It's breath-takingly beautiful. I'll post some pictures once the site revamp settles down, and we can access our pics folders again.

Yeah, but the car insurance rates will KILL ya. Or did Jersey do away with the "no drop" rule for insurance companies so the rates across the board have come down?

I will admit that I miss the saltwater taffy on the Asbury Park boardwalk, and the fabulous desserts at the many diners, but really, that's ALL I miss about Jersey.

Anywhere west of the mississippi before the other half of the country figures it out. We have an agreement with the weather- some cold here, some hot there, whatever - just no grey skies for weeks on end.

Western Massachusetts - Northampton/Amherst area, aka the "Pioneer Valley". Gender progressive, smallish but vibrant towns, lots of colleges, pretty, real seasons.

not unless you are retiring. no, not even then. it's hot, often sticky humid, there is nothing to do except go to the beach or do drugs, which is what most of the population does. there is a very real vocal hatred towards white people. yes, the nature is beautiful, but I recommend vacationing there to see it, not living there. I lived there for 9 years and couldn't have been happier to leave. also, there is a huge homeless problem, people mistreat animals like you wouldn't believe. (cockfighting and dog fighting are very common there and not thought of as being a big deal. even honolulu PD was recently in trouble for betting on a cockfighting game) the education system is one of the worst in the country, and nobody cares enough to fix it. all the schools want to train you to do is work in the tourism industry. anyone that has a brain gets out and goes to the mainland for college and a career.

I highly recommend the bay area, CA. it's very expensive to live here, but for a reason. it's gorgeous. you never run out of things to do. san francisco is an awesome city, and if you want gorgeous beaches, we've got those too. also beautiful redwood forests. the people are very liberal and chill. if you can get a job that pays enough for you to live here, by all means take it. (high tech is what a lot of people do) the weather here is fantastic. it's a quick drive to the mountains for snow.

I too left Detroit for the same reasons....moved to Los Angeles and haven't looked back. You'd like it here, it's a wonderland compared to Detroit.
