The only thing that stops me from getting one is the fear that there'll be a plague or nuclear war or something and I'll have to provide stud service to repopulate the Earth.

After 3.5 years of fucking a man with a vasectomy, I have decided I will only be fucking men who have had vasectomies in the future.

smile

PS--I watched my ex's vasectomy and it was awesome. It really wan't all that invasive at all--everything happened near the surface, through tiny little slits.

The only thing that surprised me was that the vans deferens was a little bloody when they pulled it out to snip it, but then I realized OF course there is blood in teh testicles...

I love mine now. The surgery was a mixed bag. (Small pun intended) It was a pretty young thing that taped me up, getting all my goods either out of the way or in the open. The unfortunate part was that the doc didn't numb me enough on the left side. Um ... ouch.

I really really don't want any more babies. And there are enough others that appreciate the fact that I have taken the responsibility for birth control to make it an overall rewarding experience.

Amitabha had a vasectomy this year and was kind enough to share his experience with the SG boards.. although it looks like he's removed the pictures he took.

*jealous*

They wouldn't let me anywhere near the room where my boy got his. They also left him waiting on the bed for a good half hour or so before the doctor even came in, so by the time it was finished I'd spent over an hour panicking in the waiting room (they also wouldn't tell me why it was taking SO LONG when they said it would only be 20 minutes.)

I LOVE not having to worry about taking pills and all that shit. biggrin

I want to get one at some point, but I think I want kids too. Somehow freezing this year's
vintage doesn't strike me as the best way to end up with a unique expression of the love
I would share with the mother.
Vasectomies need to be advertised way more, too much emphasis is put upon female BC,
when it is signficantly more dangerous. Translucent social prejudice at its finest. From what
I understand, it is possible to have it done and then undone once. The Doc told me, however,
that the younger you are, the lower the success rate of reversing it later. Pity.

I'd get one, but I *really* want kids at some point in my life, and loads of them (looking towards 7) and there are all sorts of risks in depending totally on freezing the ol' love sauce. I'd rather just my GF get the injection once every so often (easier than pills, feels better than johnnies & it makes her boobs grow).

Except that the shot can cause:

* a change in menstrual bleeding patterns, ranging from a complete absence of periods to heavier and longer periods. (After 6 to 12 months of use, many women stop having periods. However, this change is usually not permanent and the periods should return after Depo-Provera use is stopped)

* symptoms of pregnancy after the first few injections which taper off after a while (These symptoms include sore breasts, nausea, feeling tired, and abdominal discomfort.)

* weight gain (averaging about 3 pounds per year) (Though apparently you wouldn't mind this one.)

* depression (This may be worse in women who have suffered from depression in the past.) and

* other side effects (such as headache, dizziness, nervousness, loss of scalp hair, increase in body hair, and a change in sex drive)

Unfortunately, if any of these changes occur, they must be "lived with" until the injection wears off, as there is no way to reverse the effects of Depo-Provera once it has been given.

i ♥ my vasectomy. but toole and coyote, the thing the doctor should say to you (which he said to me) is "if you're thinking about reversing it, don't get it done.

also, 7 kids is a hell i would wish on no womyn's uterus

My vasectomy was virtually painless, and while things were cool with my wife it was the 'best days work I ever did'. Now I'm divorced it seems a bit of a mixed bag.
Obviously there's no unwanted pregnancy worries, even so women I don't know that well will want to use a condom, (I have absolutely no problem with this, it's a trust thing and I respect that completely) and at least one woman writes off a long term relationship because of the possibility of not being able to have children in the future eeek (unless she's just making excuses)
on the whole I'm glad I've had it but wouldn't want to rule out a reversal in the future if I found someone I wanted to have kids with again.

That's the thing nowadays, it always seems like women have to do all the hard work. Look honey, I'll take that little pikll or that little injection that will fuck up my body and then you can get back to having sex with me without having to worry...

Oh and yeah besides making your boobs grow (which believe it or not, not every woman wants) it also makes your boobs hurt and all sorts of unpleasant stuff... whatever

Good luck for finding a woman who wants 7 kids by the way!

I hate kids. I think they're a scourge. The country.. nay... the WORLD would be a better place if everyone under 13 was removed from the planet tomorrow.

I'd get my lines severed if I weren't such a chicken. Since I have no one even willing to hold my hand, much less sleep with me, I don't have to worry about it though. Yay?
