Well, I can and have been denied access to an IUD. Docotrs are probably banking on (and rightfully so) my laziness in fighting it. I'm not going to go through the hassel of a legal battle. But not being able to take hormones has turned me into a paranoid gal when dealing with sex.

This may be a stupid question, but have you tried Planned Parenthood?

Yes. They were the first to turn me down.

I hear you, hotcurry. A doctor at Planned Parenthood told me that they would absolutely NOT give me an IUD since I had never had children. I called later and asked the receptionist about it and she said that was a lie, and scheduled me for a consultation to see if I could get an IUD. The doctor I had the consultation with was ADAMANT about not giving me one, but I argued with her and brought in about 30 pages of information about how IUDs have NOT been proven to affect future fertility, and finally, she agreed to find another doctor that would do it for me. So I finally got one, and I was 19. They really make you struggle for it.

That is awesome! I am unable to take hormones as well, and thought about getting an IUD. I was going to go for it and had scheduled an appointment at Planned Parenthood, but then my boy decided he really hated me having to deal with trying so many things (like the hormones and the miserable results of that) and felt it was unfair that the girl had to do all the work. So he is going to get a vasectomy. We talked about it a lot, and it is really perfect for us. That said, I think that is awesome what you were able to accomplish!

Oh and they are weird with guys getting a vasectomy who have no kids and are young and stuff, too. We just had to be assertive.
