Anyone ever had an "inconclusive" HIV test?
Looking for some odds from a big group of people who have maybe gone through this already.

Scary. I have no experience to share, but good luck.

Did you have a swab test (saliva) or blood test? You may want to get a second test of a different type.

I would think that simply means that something was wrong with the test itself, such as a contaminated or insufficient quantity of sample material. I'd just go back for another test right away.

Have you already gone through the waiting period? It's about three months after exposure in order to be pretty sure about the results. Good luck with your test.

I have always received a conclusive (negative) result. That would freak me out to no end.

This is most likely the case. Sample size, contamination, human or mechanical error, anything could reach an inconclusive test. You just need to be re tested, this test doesn't mean anything either way.

Inconclusive basically means, "We don't know." Several reasons for this have already been mentioned: Insufficient sample material, human/mechanical error. I wouldn't worry about a test being "inconclusive" since that's basically saying "There are no results." It's best to get tested again.

actually, last time i went the doctor told me you can know after 30 days now. So you don't have to wait from 3 months - I asked him b/c it was like 2 and 1/2 months for me but I was freaked out anyways.

I once had an "inconclusive" pap smear... it was something like a contaminated sample I went for a 2nd and it was fine... so I wouldn't worry.. good luck I will keep you in my thoughts.

Hey. thanks guys.

I did some research and apparently you're right. They just could not read the results. The doctor didn't seem to alarmed. Just said I should go in for another test, which I'm doing this morning.

For anyone that is interested, I found out that having blood taken after you have recently had a flu shot can easily give you the "inconclusive" result. I had one fifteen minutes before getting my blood drawn.

Whew.

I haven't but one of my best friends has. I'm worried about it, but she won't get another one done. frown

All right man. That's good news. It'll be even better news when you are in the clear. And just for your peace of mind, you know what to do. Wrap that shit.
