The title of this thread killed it from the get-go. For many people 'trannies' has effectively been associated to 'chicks with dicks', Dr. Frankenfurter, and Hedwig of the Angry Inch fame.

Or that restaraunt in Alphabet City in Manhattan.


I think a better title would have been "Be honest - you'd do her in a heartbeat".

But the truth remains that some people have the frame and features to carry-off transgendering better than others. And while poking fun at 6'3" (in flats) Transgendered only shows off one's ultimate ignorance, anyone that stands out visually for whatever reason (horrible facial scars, deformed limbs, excessive height, huge boobs, oversized proboscis, etc) will command undue attention. That's just the way it is.

ive not seen Too Wong Foo bnut in my opinion The Adventures Of Prescilla, Queen Of The Desert is the best movie ever made about drag queens and trannies. anyone not seen it should watch it if just for seeing Guy Pierce in a dress

Sorry, Eddie, that I didn't post earlier. I see you found a couple b&w pics of Candy. I hadn't found too much online, but those pics you show, and the color one of mine, are in Candy's posthumous diary-book, My Face for the World to See. I dunno if it'll bore the piss outta everyone, but I had a few things to say based on that, Bob Colacello's Holy Terror, and a few films I've seen.

First of all, lemme start with the John Waters appearance at the 930 Club I saw about two years ago, I guess. John talked about Divine, and said it was his films/ friends that really developed the idea of the wild, more underground trannies, because he felt that in the 1950s trannies "were all boring conservatives who wanted to be Judy Garland," and that Divine was the first to step away from that. Maybe... but Warhol's friends, of course, were going in the same direction.
The funny thing is- from her own and Colacello's book, Candy appeared to be the type of transvestite (and later transexual) that Waters was talking about. She was pretty conservative: for one thing, Bob and Candy attended a forum on whether anal sex should be allowed or was healthy (Bob said, in an aside, that this was the kind of thing that went on in the early '70s), and at that event a couple of lesbians demonstrated some sex positions at the end, and Candy was appalled. She said it wasn't ladylike at all! Also, there is a snippet of her diary where she critiques how out-of-it (mostly from drugs) Holly Woodlawn was at the time. Candy complained Holly picked her nose all the time in public, and that when Holly said to Viva Superstar that people compared Holly to Viva "all the time," Viva's reply was that she was never so insulted in her entire life!
But anyway, here's the kicker- Candy and Divine loved each other!! They were very big fans of each other's work, even if they were total opposites.
Now, I find Holly Woodlawn sexy, too. She and Candy are both in Women in Revolt (as is Jackie Curtis, who would go back and forth between being a man and a woman, and also had some drug problems which eventually killed her), and Holly's in Trash (which I watched some of, but found kinda... hard to take) and also in the 1989 documentary Resident Alien about Quentin Crisp (one of my all-time fave films), and anyone who wants to be entertained to the max should check out those.
Jackie Curtis? Well, she's sorta sexy, but I don't think she's on the level of Candy and Holly.
There's a DVD of the South Bank Show episode on Andy Warhol that I checked out from the library a couple times that is a must-see because it has a scene that was, apparently, shot for Women in Revolt but is not in the film (at least the cut of it I saw). In the scene, Candy is dining with a very flamboyantly made-up man (he looks like a 1920s Marilyn Manson or something) and this other guy with a girly voice is yelling at Candy for hanging around this guy and the fictitious political group in the movie, Politically Involved Girls i.e. PIG, and Candy is more amused than upset by his tirade. If it had been in the film, it'd be the best scene in it!
