I think the no father thing is overblown, there are lots of hetero people out there who get knocked up and the looser walks off.

My biggest concern is the lack of civil union laws. What happens 5 or 10 years from now if the couple breaks up? The person who got inseminated is legally responsible for that child and the other one is off scott free.

Things like that are what those nit-wit 'christians' don't think about when they scream about a marriage being one man and one woman.

Hey everyone, I would just like to know what some of you think about it. YOUR OPINION. I hope this doesnt turn out to be a nasty thread. I have a friend and shes considering it.Shes Lesbian. Thank you for reading this.I'm not for it. I feel it isnt fair for the child to grow up without a father.Later on that child is going to ask. Whos my father?. Than what? After all those years of growing that child up and spending time with them. That child is going to be pissed off id imagine. Not knowing there real dad. I do not feel that Lesbian parents make bad parents though. I defenetly think they make good parents.Considering there both females. But there still should be a father.

I grew up in a single parent (mom) household, and then my mom married an asshole and I wish he would have died. Fuck fathers, you don't need em. What a child needs is love. Two women working together can generate a shitload of love, especially if they're working against societal norms in order to realize their dream.

I think choosing AI is deeply personal. Most people wouldn't dream of giving a couple the third degree if they were trying to have a baby the natural way but when AI comes into the picture it's public debate. It's beyond difficult to adopt, especially infants. Sometimes AI is the only route, especially when dealing with homosexual couples who want to share their lives with a child. Unless they pay thousands upon thousands of dollars and adopt from a third world country there is no hope for them to start a family.
Why are we always debating other people's personal choices?
As for a lesbian couple raising a child, it worked out just fine for me. My Mom is a lesbian and my father was infrequently in my life at best. I had no real male presence and I like to think I turned out pretty okay.

Thank you.

Truly, all we really know is our own situation and what is best for us. LEt's let other people decide for themselves what is good for them.

My first instinct was to go on the defensive. As a father, I'd like to think I'm very much needed in my daughter's life. However, everyone's dynamic is different. The best thing my sister's sperm donor ever did was get the fuck out of their lives.

As long as the child is a loving home, I don't care how they got there or if the family is the traditional "Leave it to Beaver" household.

I'm always wondering this! People are so annoyingly nosy.

Adoption instead of artificial insemination isnt really a very good argument.

For people that want all the joys of having a kid from the infant stage, adoption can take years and cost thousands of dollars.

Aritificial insemination takes 3-6 months and costs $300 - $600 a cycle.

Not to mention that not everyone is a viable adoption candidate.

I'm against it in that I won't participate in it (I'm hoarding my seed!). I think our world is already pretty well populated, and there are sufficient opportunities for adoption if one really wants to have a child (the process does need to be streamlined, significantly, though).

That said, I would never support any law preventing artificial insemination. I would not look down on someone for making that decision even though I disagree with it. It's their personal choice and any effect it has on my life is relatively minor.

why does it even matter to you guys? If there wasn't artificial insemenation around, I wouldn't be either. I am a sperm bank baby. And you know what? It's fine. So all you assholes who want to talk about how not having a father isn't fair and how it's gonna fuck you up and make your life miserable can shove it. My mom and I did just fine. I dont care who my father is, i have never tried to find out. there are other posivitve role models in my life. and there are a million other situations: what if a woman really wants a baby but her partner is infertile? the kid would still have a father. and a lot of people have trouble adopting. as long as the kid has a loving and supportive family (however they choose to define it) who cares?

I agree with you.

You know, guys, personalizing this issue might help you understand it a bit more. You're talking about the topic in such cold terms, you forget that people, GOOD people, like Adahlia here, are the product of such a practice.

Not to mention there are PLENTY of people with fathers who are fucked in the head, so not only is your speach condemning, but now it's also half-cocked and ignorant. Good show. whatever
