If someone's already asked this, just direct me to the proper thread, but I haven't been able to find it yet.

So, I just shaved my pubic hair for the first time tonight. I actually left a fair amount, not wanting to go completely bald yet, but I wanted to shave the labia and area closest to the clit to make it easier for potential partners when they need to be in that region. smile

I know you're supposed to shave in the direction of the hairs, but this didn't work for me at all! I used a new razor and everything, but I still ended up having to shave in the opposite direction to do any good. I was a good girl and moisturized afterwards, which cut down on itching, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem? Is there something I can do to make it easier to go in the proper direction, or is it okay just to keep doing what I'm doing? I'd love not to have to deal with itching anymore, but I'm hoping after a few tries it'll toughen up enough to not be a problem.

Shaving in reverse after shaving with the grain is the best way to get a close shave. Fuck the queer eye guys.

I'm not a girl and therefore lack a vagina of my own, but I've heard from more than one girl that putting unscented deodorant gel on there helps. That's all I got on the subject, other than my vehement opposition to the idea of shaving for anyone but yourself.

I started shaving intermittently a year or two ago. The itching became much less sever the second or third time, in my case.

A guy friend of mine once gave me the best advice . . . use a tiny bit of neosporin like lotion afterwards. Just a little. TOTALLY cuts down the irritation. smile

Don't know if any of these will help because I'm not up to reading all of them, but it's worth a try.

Give it time and it wont. I've shaved so much that I only get a couple of in-grown hairs and minimal itching unless I do something stupid. But then I use an electric razor.
Though now I'm letting it grown in a bit since I haven't had pubic or chest hair for several years.

tips:
shave every damn day.
moisturize.
use shave gel (though i only use it on the most outer areas, like the very top of my vulva). i reccommend skintimate's bikini and underarm gel. good stuff.
use a really good razor.

I shaved everything for the longest time, and no matter what I did I got wicked razor burn/ingrown hairs. I finally went to Sally's and they sell a brazilian waxing kit you don't even use strips with. It's only about $15 and I got about 4 uses out of it, so it's not much more expensive than shaving. Plus you get a before cleanser, and after lotions. It grows back without itching much and leaving you with that stubble that "exfoliates" your partner's skin.

does anyone know if that veet hair removal stuff works down there? If it does, she should try that. I know it works on normal body hair as my friend sprayed it all over my leg and i have random smooth patches all over my leg. And its true, it does last twice as long as shaving! hahah, taking forever to grow back. I'm just hoping it doesn't cause it to burn down there or anything in case someone tries it.

edited because apparently i don't know when to hit the space bar.

i dont really know shit all about girls shabving habbits or recomndations etc, all i know is that if idont shave my face it itchys like crazy like ive got chickickn poxs in my stuble so i have to shave to keep the itchying down and using a letric shaver just kind amakes it itch more and pulls the hairs out, i think if you should wax instead of shave or shave then wax, i dunno my 1 cent it wos 2 but its not worth that much

Anyone gonna actually answer her question? wink

I'll try, I guess. Did you try trimming yourself with an electric razor first? If it's your first time, you may have so much hair that it's not really working to go "with the grain" - try trimming it down first, then try with the grain with the razor.

For what it's worth, I sometimes do both. I think going against the grain just increases the chance of getting an ingrown hair. Yeah, it's a close shave - but it can cause unpleasant sideeffects.

NO NO NO!!

Don't ever do this. I've had chemical burns on my legs from that shit, and it was more painful than almost anything. If you love your genitals, please never put chemicals anywhere near them.

True story.

I used to work at a screenprinting shop, and because I was young, they stuck me in the back cleaning the screens (I hated doing that). Screens we were going to use again needed to be cleaned with paint thinner (in an open bucket of course) and a rag. I wore a smock to help protect my clothes, and I used that smock every day, never cleaning it.

One day I hear my name called, as I come around the corner I get whacked in the chest with a stream of water from the hose. We chuckle and I think nothing of it. Then I started getting itchy down there. Not too much later it starts to hurt a little, I continue to ignore it until it feels like my flesh is about to burn off. Finally, I take off the smock and look down my pants, my thigh and genitiles are bright red and extremely hot to the touch. The water had washed all the built up thinner down into my pants and underwear soaking them. It continued to get worse for the rest of the day (of course I kept working), one of the most painful things I ever experienced. Eventually my skin flaked off like a bad sunburn.

I don't reccommend it.
