I have to say the English accent is cool but there's so many variations of it.

Guy who I recently split up with was Welsh and boy was it a turn on love

I'm heading to New York in a couple of months, seems my accent will serve me well. Sweet.

'English' isn't really an accent though, I'm from southern england and how I speak couldn't be more different from a geordie, or a scouser or a west country accent.

well as a proud owner of a north west england (primarily East Lancashire), I have to say Irish accents do it for me. also southern drawl american, "I have always relied upon the kindness of strangers", lol, type of thing! Anything in the movies with a "north england accent" always seems to be Liverpool, Manchester or Yorkshire, dagnamnit.

Do you think anyone outside the UK would understand a Geordie?

We don't understand Geordie's even IN England.

Brummie accents are not particularly attractive, neither are Scouse accents. Apologies to anyone from Liverpool or Birmingham!

Fortunately I'm from Warwick (smack in the centre of the English countryside), unfortunately I currently live in Birmingham city centre (thankfully without the accent - no offence, just not my cup of tea).

I find it's quite polar. I can't stand most English regional accents, yet I find all the American accents fascinating.

I've got a pretty thick Lancashire accent apparently, which i guess is something you don't hear a lot of on the telly in America. I can drop it when I need to though and then i have a pretty neutral English accent (because theres a lot of connotations about it making you sound stupid, and the turns of phrase I might employ casually are somewhat coloquial and not appropriate when im trying to sound smart. I swear alot too and that kind of goes if im trying to drop my accent also).

personally i've never found any british accents all that sexy, and i've found quite a few of the regional ones un-sexy (scouse, brummy, cockney). I tend to like european accents on girls, especially french.

Accents aren't for me, but I think of this every time I hear a person speaking with an English accent:

I don't really get accents. In Ireland, you can walk in any direction for 10 min and get a different accent eeek .

Also, people think I've an American accent for some reason surreal

I have a Yorkshire accent. American people seem to have issues understanding what I'm saying cause I talk quite fast.

I like Canadian accents... I also like new zealand accents. yum.

That reminds me of a story one of my Profs in Maynooth told me once. Apparently he'd taken him young daughter out West, I think around Cork and he was talking to an older man there. Afterwards, he feels tug on his pants and looks down to see his daughter trying to get his attention, and looking scared.
"Daddy", he said, "that man was speaking a DIFFERENT LANGUAGE!" biggrin

As for the American accent, which one? We've got quite a few varieties over here as well. Personally, I speak with a fairly thick Upper Midwestern accent which, sadly, is not considered nearly as sexy by women as an Irish accent (I wish I'd picked one of those up when I lived in Ireland! biggrin )
