Of course. That's like asking is it better to have trusted and been deceived than never trusted at all.
Its better to be able to love someone, just like its better to be able to trust someone (even if its only your mother) . The cliche isn't suggesting you should be stupid and love the pimp downtown because it's better to have loved and lost than not at all. Its saying that its better to have made a mistake, or experienced a misfortune, in love than be the extreme case that can't love at all ever. In a sense its like saying its better to experience the pain of life than to be dead. Neither is good but one is an awful lot more extreme.
Its something you say to keep the optimism going, that you can try again (though maybe with more wisdom/ appreciation/ doughnuts/ whatever).
I fell in love for the first time at 25 ... I never tought it would happen to me. Im more of a solitary guy, at least its what I always tought. She dumped me 6 weeks ago and I never felt that bad. But I can honestly say that I wouldnt trade this experience for anything.

here's my question: is it possible to be unlucky in love...or do you get what you deserve?
I haven't been a bitch to anyone and I'm really comfortable with my karma's rating status
yeah..i can pretty much say the same thing. i'm a nice guy for the most part, no real sadistic qualities, don't enjoy inflicting pain on anyone. still romantically speaking my life hasn't had any real love stories. lots of flings though, plenty of sexual encounters yes. some broken hearts definitely. true love? never.
