Was former NFL player/professional wrestler Wahoo McDaniel insane for wrestling a match the same day he had his vasectomy?
It at least led to a funny story. He was wrestling his friend Ric Flair that night, and Flair said Wahoo kept saying "I'm hurtin', kid" Flair, thinking maybe an injury had taken place, kept asking "What's wrong, Chief?"
Wahoo would just shake his head and say "I'm hurtin' "

Can anyone tell me about how much it costs to get it done? I'm sure prices are different for the different types of ways they do it. We have no insurance at all so it would be all out of pocket.
And how to talk a reluctant man into getting it done?
For costs, these folks usually have pretty reliable information: Vasectomy Costs.. I doubt if many people pay for it out of pocket.
As for how to convince a guy, that's trickier. It's a bit like telling someone they're Christian now, or telling them they're sexually aroused by canteloupes. You might get them to agree to it. Maybe they'll start doing to church and the two of you will dry hump melons for hours. But in the long run, he'll be more likely to regret his decision if it wasn't one he came to naturally. Most doctors advise you not to go in for the surgery if you're only doing it for someone else.
I just posted an essay/story about the vasectomy on my SG blog for anyone who's curious. Please let me know what you think with comments. Delicious, delicious comments.

The cost is a bit more than we could afford now. But I would really like for him to have it done in the future. We have a kid but unfortunately it wasn't an option for me to get my tubes done b/c they refuse to do it. I'm 24 with one kid and we aren't married. (But yet an 18 year old can get a boob job ) We both don't want anymore kids, we have agreed on that. But he's afraid of the actual pain. He's afraid of anything to do with doctors/hospitals really. So I just need to show him that he will be fine and it's not like major surgery. I think he's still stuck on the initial reaction of getting your balls snipped which is "OMG not my nuts!!! Ouch!!"
CassyLee, the "actual pain" is really not that bad at all. In fact, it was so tolerable, that I was REALLY tempted to have sex the day after. They gave me a prescription for Vicadin and I never took a single one (I ended up trading the entire bottle for some ecstasy about two weeks after my surgery).
He needs to get over it and talk to people who've actually had one. I can totally relate to the "fear of the unknown." It's seriously nothing to trip on.
I cannot imagine the pain you felt going through pregnancy (let alone childbirth) and I can say any guy who is holding off when the woman they're with has had a kid then.....(wah wah wah sound here).

Oh, then in that case, go for it. The pain wasn't too much. (If it is, then that means something went wrong, which only occurs in a very small percentage of cases.) You can tell him how it's usually a simple procedure done in a doctor's office, not a hospital. If he's still worried about it, you two could sit down and watch a very special episode of "Home Improvement."
I wanted to get one done when I was 20. I was told by numerous people docotors wouldn't even think of doing it until I was 25. A month after I turned 25 I made an appointment. It was a 5 min consult the doc asked me a few questions. Was I married, Do I have kids, Why do I want to do this. Then next week I was in getting the procedure done. I had local anesthesia and was out of there in an hour. I have had dental work that was more uncomfortable than this. Insurance covered the whole $1,300 bill. It has been two years and I do not regret it. I can travel, enjoy my hobbies and work overtime without worring about finding child care for kids. I work 10 24hr shifts a month. The rest allows me to take off at the drop of the pin and enjoy my hobbies. Don't get me wrong I like kids but I'd make a better uncle than father. Get them wound up and send them home with their parents. The only problem after having this procedure I have found is finding a women who does not want kids. I have been through 3 relationships because the kid issue was the deal breaker

Yeah. I can see how having kids would be a big issue in a relationship. But if you find the right woman and end up wanting kids there is always adoption. Or you could get her a puppy...

It sounds to me that the "right" woman would be the one who doesn't want children either.
Chin up, Dude, there ARE women who share your lack of ambition in the breeding department.
I talk with my man all the effin time about getting this done, no kids ever for either of us, EVER. Too much else to do in life, too many people in the world. I think men who get this done are HOT
I waited until I was in my 30s to have mine done because I kept hearing about how doctors wouldn't do the proceedure if you did not have children already and were in your 20s. When I finally consulted a doctor they asked me questions to see if I understood the permanence of the proceedure and if i had any doubts. I had a local anesthetic and while there isn't any actual pain it was slightly uncomfortable to feel the doctor tugging on things that were attached to stuff inside my body! I was also worried afterward about what kind of pain there would be after the anesthetic wore off but it was surprisingly little.
I was initially a little concerned about the young female nurse that was assisting the doctor with the proceedure, but I soon realized I was so nervous about the Dr. holding scalpels and syringes in one hand and my scrotum in the other that there was no way I was going to "embarrass myself" in front of her.... in fact, im pretty sure all guys look like their penis is trying to crawl up into their abdominal cavity at that point.
