We aren't the only one's with interesting sex lives!

From Listverse.com

"Amazing Fact: If a female ferret goes into heat but cant get any sex, she will die

This is a female specific problem; female ferrets can go into extended heat - during which time they must breed or they can die of aplastic anemia - a condition in which the bone marrow stops producing enough new blood cells (caused by estrogen toxicity.) This is because female ferrets are induced ovulators, so mating is required to bring the female out of heat. Intact females, if not mated, will remain in heat, and after some time the high levels of estrogen will cause the bone marrow to stop producing red blood cells."

"Amazing Fact: Dolphins, like humans, have sex for pleasure

Dolphin copulation happens belly to belly and though many species engage in lengthy foreplay, the actual act is usually only brief, but may be repeated several times within a short time-span. Dolphins are known to have sex for reasons other than reproduction, sometimes also engaging in acts of a homosexual nature. Various dolphin species have been known to engage in sexual behavior with other dolphin species, this also having resulted in various hybrid dolphin species as mentioned earlier. Sexual encounters may be violent, with male dolphins sometimes showing aggressive behavior towards both females and other male dolphins. Occasionally, dolphins will also show sexual behavior towards other animals, including humans."

"Amazing Fact: The males of some species (including bees, baboons, rats, squirrels, scorpions, mice, and spiders) create a mating plug after sex which prevents other males from having sex with the same female

The mating plug is a gelatinous compound which is inserted in the females vagina after copulation. When it hardens, it prevents other males from having sex with the female. This is useful in the case of bee-hives where there may be thousands of males wanting to have sex with the queen. When a drone in the beehive has had sex with the queen, his entire genitalia detaches to form the plug - which also means that he dies shortly after. Future drones who wish to mate with the queen must forcibly remove the plug."

"Amazing Fact: A pigs orgasm lasts 30 minutes

Before you start pining to be a pig, remember, after the orgasm the pig eventually ends up on our dinner table! But that aside, it is true that a pig can have an orgasm that lasts up to 30 minutes - at least I have not been able to find any evidence to the contrary after extensive research."

I agree. After the first several seconds your junk would probably get kind of oversensitive.

Also, I hope the pigs don't ejaculate for 30 minutes. I mean ... goddamn.

I see no one's mentioned Bonobos yet.
They're crazy sex friends, and they use sex to calm disputes, bond and just for something to do.
Yes, I knew primate behavior 2231 would come in handy.

One theory behind the shape of the human penis is that the bulbous head, upon withdrawal, will scoop another man's semen out of the vagina, making the second guy more likely to be the one to fertilize the woman.

That makes no sense. Why would that be an evolutionary advantage?

Because the second man's penis would remove the first man's semen, leaving only his genes to be passed on.

It wouldn't be an advantage, I wouldn't think, to the species as a whole, but it seems like something that would be naturally selected anyways. If you have some feature that makes you more likely to pass on your genes than the next guy, then it stands to reason that that feature will more likely be passed on. "Natural selection" isn't necessarily the same thing as "advantageous to the species."

yeah they're usually called a pygmy chimp. They're the same size as a chimp but they're black instead of brown.
They're actually an ape, not a monkey (I'm one of them academic smart asses now...grrr).
Sometimes moms' will initiate sons into by "assisted genital rubbing". It's interesting that most paternity tests indicate there isn't alot of inbreeding.

There's two different aspects to natural selection. There's personal "fitness" that is the ability for one organism to spread it's genes. Then the conventional "natural selection" as most people know it is when ecology determines whether or not a species will be successful within it's niche. It's the ability of the individual that affects fitness, while the ability of a species to fill it's niche that is selected for via natural selection.

So, short, all the gibberish means I'm +2. Natural Selection is advantageous to the species.

I did this once. I did not end up comatose, though the after effects were pretty harsh. I think I cried some.

That's almost 17" for those of us not living with the metric system.
