From my first and only blog I just wrote - any thoughts?

"How come people don't go on "real dates" much these days? I can think of probably 2 or 3 real dates I've gone on in the last three years or so. What constitutes a "real date", you ask?

1. Pick me up at my house, you're driving.
2. If you asked me out, how about you figure out the plan.
3. Flowers? Maybe? Not necessary, but a nice gesture every once in a while :o)
4. You pay for dinner and try to get to know me. There's more to me than my exterior, thank you.
5. Maybe a movie? I like to reserve this for 2nd dates.. you don't really get a chance to get to know eachother when you're busy watching other peoples' lives.
6. Drive me home, walk me to my door, and kiss me goodnight

Call me old-fashioned. I'm not asking for this to happen ALL OF THE TIME, but what ever happened to courtship? Are girls just not worth the energy anymore? Have we all just become "too easy"? I think not. Too many times we're just asked to "hang out". Don't get me wrong, I love hanging out with someone I'm interested in, but come on, where's the romance!?! Somebody tell me please?"

For me personally, what you describe as a "real date" is way too formal to be romantic. I've gone on a few of those and they make me feel uncomfortable, like the guy is playing a role instead of being himself, and they've never resulted in much.

Virtually all my relationships have started with getting drunk and making out, haha. Different strokes...

That sounds like a perfectly awful idea, frankly. I don't usually disagree with you, but this time I'ma have to. *sighs/shakes head/otherwise expresses disapproval*

Ha!!!

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
I own a copy of said book (and I've read large chunks of it), but I don't subscribe to its premise. (Says the owner of SlutPride -- gosh!)

But it's kinda funny in this context.

Well, OK, to me anyway.

Oh, don't get me wrong. It sounds both kind of fascinating and kind of amusing, and I'd probably read the hell out of it.

But I felt the need to express my mock-shock at the mock-promotion of such an ideal, and in this of all places, and by you of all people! Gasp!

Fuck, yes. I think so, anyway. I don't at all think that those things are mutually exclusive.

If I went on a date like this with a girl, I'd probably never go on a date with them again.

"Princess seeks prince. You will be romantic and tender and take me out on dates. You will pick me up, bring flowers, and pay for the meal. You will be neat and casually dressed, but please show some style. Punctuality essential. Remuneration to be negotiated (i.e. you may get lucky, but don't expect anything). Frogs need not apply."

Pretty much sounds like a normal first date to me as long as you are going out with a woman with high self esteem who is trying to meet someone of similar quality. Getting drunk and picking up a horny skank is fun but you pretty much know what you're getting into.

You know, sometimes it's just nice when the other person makes an effort. I mean, an actual date is nice every now and again. Dates don't need to fall into that exact category, but i mean, hell. I like playing the part of the girl, on occasion. Really though, if you are with the right person, who the fuck cares where you go or what you do? Just as long as you're having fun.

For me, dates like that have always felt weird and awkward, too scripted. I agree with having a plan if you ask, and whoever asks should pay (and hey, I've ask out a few fellows and paid). I agree that hanging out at a bar is not first date activity, but flowers and a fancy restaurant...maybe that has just always been too far out of my economic group when I was dating to seem real.
