I'm sad to hear that. My anti-deppressants seem to only increase my sex drive.

From the little I know, you have to shop around to find the drug that gives you a good compromise between effectiveness and side-effects. Talk with people to get a feel for the particular drugs and what to expect from them. Switch around but not without giving them a chance.

Please try not to stay on the drugs too long. They're not meant for maintenance, and we want the real Tekky, don't we? kiss

With you on that one.

I'm on Zoloft, and not only does it repress my sex drive, it makes it so that sex would be totally uninteresting if I had a partner.

I'm kind of a recluse, so it's not that much of a problem for me, but it does contribute to that all-encompassing sense of numbness that antidepressants provide.

But surely depression would equal no sex drive, also?

I guess it's a no win situation.

not true. not all SSRIs produce the same sexual side effects. you should talk to your doctor about trying out other drugs that will affect you differently. ok?

That's...like a crime against humanity.

But these other guys are right, if you haven't, give other versions of the drug a try, you might find a sweet spot.

An ex of mine kept switching drugs to find one that didn't kill the sex drive.. Prozac, Zoloft, all had the same effect. The only one he found that worked for him was St John's Wort.

So yea, shop around... your doctor might not recommend St John's Wort in particular though, seeing as it's herbal and a lot of doctors only want to perscripbe drugs...

Werd.

Sexual side effects seem to be one of the most common problems with antidepressants.. which would be pretty damn depressing.. Damn Catch22. But like the mac daddy of know said, lot's of different ones to try. Make sure and talk to your doc about it. I'm sure you'll be humping like a mad bunny in no time! (Be sure and include pictures... just so we know you're alright) wink

I've been on Prozac, Zoloft & Paxil and ALL of them killed mine aswell. Then I started taking St.Johns Wort because I wanted OFF the drugs alltogether for my sanity and my sex drive. It works REALLY well for me and I've been taking it for over a year now. biggrin

Lexapro hasn't killed my drive. Curbed it a little, but not dead. I've gone from almost obsessing about sex (side effect of my depression) to just wanting to have sex on a regular basis. Different meds work differently for different people. Some women actually see an increased drive on Welbutrin.

The problem with St. John's Wort is that it can reduce the effectiveness of the pill by up to 50%... so, uh, I wouldn't recommend it if you're on the pill.

Trying different Antid's seems to be the consensus of opinion here but every time I switch I have to go through the whole 48 hours of sickness thing before my body adjusts. It's like being permanently hung over for 2 days and really puts you off trying different types, once the sickness stops its hard to willingly start over.

Been there, done that. I was on Zoloft for a few years. Totally blanked on sex drive. Worked very hard. Had two issued patents and made another million dollars.

Zoloft is the drug I would give my employees were I a bad boss.

I'm on Celexa. It hasn't affected my sex drive at all -- well, maybe a TINY bit -- but it takes forever and ever to get to orgasm. I usually just give up and go to sleep.

Given the positive effects it's had on my life, the eternal journey to orgasm really doesn't bother me. It's all about the Big Picture.

i never really noticed the decrease of my sex drive while on celexa and remeron until i quit both after two years... right when i quit i felt hornier than a rabbit and my hormones were out of control. now everything is back to normal (sexually), but i'm handling my depression on my own (no insurance).
