Has anyone done this, or know anyone who has? Why? Does this empower women by allowing them to control their bodies, or does it just give another opportunity to feel inadequate about something?

The only episode of Howard Stern's radio show on TV I ever saw was a show where the porn star Houston was talking about getting labiaplasty. After this I did some... research... on Houston, and she did have quite a lot of outer labia. Imagine the second before photo on the second page there, but twice as big.

Personally I find it attractive, but she mentioned that if she wore certain bikinis the labia would bulge out, or sometimes slip out from underneath. I can imagine that being awkward and making one uncomfortable.

For me personally, I see it as more of the latter--in that I'm not about to let the great "They" make me question or worry about one more thing about the flesh in which I exist, especially not my cunt--but to each her own, and everyone's choices belong to her/him alone. I definitely know and understand that there are other, not-necessarily-cosmetic, but regardless very good reasons to look into such a thing.

The doctors dreamed up something new to make you feel insecure about so that they could SELL YOU SOMETHING. It's fucking stupid. Unless you're tripping over your labia, leave it the fuck alone. It looks awesome.

How fucked up are those pictures?! They're stretching the girls labias out to the side to make them look bigger than they are!!

And the end result? All identical? Life ceases to be fun when we're all the same! Give me a real girl any day of the week.

Observe! Necia requires no discussion; she is (as ever) thought out, well spoken, and neither ignorant nor judgmental.

But as for you, sailor, tell me just how often your labia get caught up inside you when you have sex? They ever hurt? Do they itch when they stick to your knickers? They cause you a lot of pain sometimes?

What's that you say? You don't have any? Golly. Maybe you should pop your sweeping, inaccurate generalisation up your snatch until you're a bit better informed. The fact that some women have a procedure for cosmetic reasons is hardly an indication that it's universally flighty and unnecessary.

Yes, and I agree with your point, but it would be naive of you to not realize this is another thing that will be attempted to be sold to individuals. It'll put another emphasis on what a woman should look like, what perfection is, and give women another reason to worry about their body and how it looks.

But just because someone has a penis they can't make a judgement on vagina surgery? That's not a generalisation?

Or, just maybe, some women have an issue w/having extra labia, and are well within their rights to have said procedure.

Sure, it can be looked at as just another cosmetic procedure, but some women can actually physically benefit from this. I know my labia occasionally gets caught... and I feel like a dude when I'm in public dying to reach down and "adjust." It's nothing warranting surgery, but I've heard of women in almost constant pain because of their inner labia being too large.

I think it's just nice to have the option. Similar to the option to breast reduction... some get it purely for aesthetic reasons; others get it to get rid of back pain.

I don't know of anyone having this done, not even pornstars and whatnot... I guess it can come in handy, after reading some of the replies... but unless it's needed, then yes I see it as pointless... and like atomicant said, if I'm seeing it and touching it, I don't really mind what it looks like.

To the OP: I'm curious as to why you chose to focus on a woman's decision and her thoughts leading up to that decision, in the matter of undergoing labiaplasty; as opposed to focusing on men's decisions and their thoughts leading up those decisions on why they feel the need for phalloplasty or liposuction or any of the various other cosmetic procedures that men undergo each and every day?

I just find it curious that whenever I visit this forum, it's generally men who are always so focused on what women are doing with their bodies (which can sometimes carry an implication that somehow a woman needs to justify her decisions and actions, but a man doesn't), whether it be getting fake boobs, shaving their pubes, or now this.

I hope your reasons are benign and in no way, judgmental in sheep's clothing. For now, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

But to answer your question: yes, I know someone who had it done. And I support her and any woman's decision to undergo that or any other procedure of their choosing; and have never even thought to question their motives with regard to the decisions they make for their own bodies.

I was curious about womens bodies because i dont have one, and so I find them more interesting than mens bodies. Also there is no chance that I would ever modify any part of me through elective surgery, especially my wang. I guess I was asking because I couldn't undersand why. I didn't realize that there may be some kind of medical reason (pain, etc.). I happen to think women are beautiful in all configurations without any enhancements. More power to folks who are able to make themselves happier about their bodies, I just didn't get it. I hope ladies realize that men love their ladies bodies, especially the vag reigon, no matter how big/small everything is. I would assume ladies probably feel the same about their guys. Maybe I am wrong. I'm sure someone will tell me if I am smile

Having any elective surgery that might fuck with how I sexually function is out of the question for me.

I love what my vagina does for me.

I had a bit of surgery on my vagina...and my doctor was one who regularly does labiaplasty. I was actually too small.....errr....my opening could not accommodate even the smallest penis! To try to force it would be so painful, I would have to use ice on myself for an hour afterwards! I never wanted to have sex.

As soon as I was over 18, I had the surgery done in NYC. When they cut you, they have to sort of "reshape" everything. My doctor was a perfectionist and wanted both of my inner labia to be identical. And so I guess you could say that some of my procedure involved "labiaplasty".
In any case, my vag looks quite a bit different now than the one I grew up with. wink

But you can't tell or anything, there are no scars and it looks really nice!! I can hardly remember now what it *used* to look like! But I love the way it looks now and I can have sex...pain-free!

Oh...and by the by...when I was getting information on my procedure...I did a lot of research into that kind of surgery. The major reasons that women have their labia decreased in size are because the labia rub uncomfortably between their legs during normal activities, get pinched in their underwear, become pulled inwards during sex, and many other (very painful and uncomfortable) situations!
So I would say that it is a somewhat necessary surgery.
