I met my girlfriend in college and we've been together since sophomore year. Now its been 5 years and 2 months and we have never lived in the same state outside of school. For the past 2 years I've been teaching and I'm getting ready to start a new job this school year. She has been working as a substute teacher in NJ. (I'm in CT) She says she is going to move up here in the next year but, true or not, right now is miserable. Is anyone else in this situation right now?

Yeah. I know the feeling. I always cry like a baby as it gets closer. :-(

Oh, look in groups for the LDR group. There is one.

Yes. And I fucking hate it.

The distance. Not the relationship. I love my girlfriend. I just wish she was here.

I used to be, Illinois - Arizona. But I moved and I couldnt be happier. (Unless I was outside of America, then I would be orgasmic.)

I try to see my S.O. as much as possible when I'm attached, so this would probably drive me crazy. You gain so much just from the intimacy of spending a lot of time together. I can't imagine how you could fill that in, otherwise.

Yeah, I know. Its more about the time and the distance. Its far enough away that when you are working, the best you can do is see each other a weekend here or there.

That's totally understandable. I dated a guy for a year who was at school three hours away, in the same state, and even that was a bitch.

Just got out of one, me in Oakland, Ca, her in Montreal. Bothered her more than me (but I like LOTS of alone time), so she ended it. Lasted as long as any other I guess (little over 2 years).

Good luck to you all.....Despite my experience, I still think such things can 'work'. Just takes more work and commitment than the average relationship.

Dont know how you people cope (respect to you for it), over here its so compact and crowded i doubt you would consider anywhere in this country long distance! had an ex that lived 50 miles away and people kept asking me how i coped with the distance...
