Looks like Law of Intertia is putting together a Smashing Pumpkins tribute record.

The label will be putting together a record of Smashing Pumpkins covers done by the likes of Poison the Well, Hopesfall, A Static Lullaby, Underoath, My Chemical Romance and more.

The album is tentatively scheduled for release next year.

What, is Billy Corgan now some Jimmy Hendrix like figure who deserves a tribute album. This comes out of the same mindset that put "I Love the 90's" on VH1.

I think it's a shit attempt to make these poopy bands sound good. I thought this tribute junk was left up to Cleopatra and other “Indie” labels to make a quick buck? Has rock’n’roll really died? Do we have to run back in time when a band/artist had one good single and a cover to make it big? I’ll give my respect to any one that has the balls to cover “Heavy Metal Machine.” Not just for the thick tuning and riff, but cause of the lyrics. It would be a slap in the face for Billy and the covering artist. And the thing about Billy being like Hendrix... Last time I looked, he's one of the last guitar heroes out there... Next to Slash and Eric Clapton.

well for the comment on my chemical romance doing the cover only makes sense since its frontman is Billy Corgan's little brother....

No, no no, no no no. A "Tribute" to the Pumpkins just doesn't work - especially since Billy still wants the Pumpkins to get back together.

I refuse to buy it. Ugh.

Amen, the mans got talent, even if he sometimes he forgot how to use it most effectively. BUt yeah I would rather see an album full of all the leftovers from the melloncollie album, like maybe all the songs from the pastichio medley. Would be much more enjoyable to hear them in their prime, as opposed to a bunch of suck ass bands trying to cover them in their prime.

Indeed - The Smashing Pumpkins are my favorite band and although all the aforementioned bands in this tribute are usually shit, I will give it a chance.

Who am I kidding? I'd give it a chance regardless - if it's Pumpkins-related, I'm there.

Depends what tribute albums are trying to achieve...resurrect old songs? truly pay homage to an influential artist, or just crank out some versions because the artists has really got any good original songs!?
I loved the tribute to the Misfits, they're not all that bad. But sure plenty are...as for a Smashing Pumpkins tribute album? Sounds dicey, especially with the bands in mind covering the songs, Poison the Well doing 'Today'? What the Fuck?!
Smashing Pumpkins were a top band in their time (don't mention Zwan) I don't see the need for a tribute just yet. Billy Corgan is going solo so until he has got that out of his system...
