Guitar? Bass? Drums? Keytar? Marimba? Please, do share with us your preferred instrument[s] of mass destruction, howlong you've been playing, and go ahead and plug your band, while you're at it (if applicable).

I personally played guitar for about 8-9 years until I realized about a week ago that I no longer want anything to do with guitar. I'm adopting drums, which I've always played casually. On that note, anybody got an inexpensive beginner's kit to sell? biggrin

I've played guitar for 8 or 9 years now. I played bass on the side ever since I started guitar, but have been playing bass professionally for the past 3 years. Right now I'm backing a local singer/songwriter Shawn William.

I don't really prefer one instrument to the other, sometimes I frequently switch between the two during rehearsal. Gimmie a guitar, gimmie a bass, and a nice frosty six pack of Sam Adams - and it's music-makin' time.

Here's me during practice with my old band. I played bass

I also play some guitar, though not very well.
In middle school I played trombone
When I was very young I took piano lessons, and I've remembered it somewhat over the years.
I'm going to start taking bagpipe lessons soon.

This is me, playing bass with my band, Tomihira, at the House of Shields in San Francisco. We're a mixture of The Cure + Doves + New Order + Interpol.

The instruments I play in various bands are bass, keys, guitar, and drums, and I sing. Have been doing each for about 15+ years now -- self-taught on all except keys. Out of those instruments, I have the most fun and get the most satisfaction playing drums, followed by bass. I play a Sonor birch + Zildjian K kit. For bass, I run a Fender Active Deluxe Jazz through a Behringer + Ampeg 4x10 half-stack.

My other project is Elephant Crush which is kind of a mixture of Talking Heads + Morphine + QotSA + AiC + RHCP + Echo and the Bunnymen.

Oh, and for that drum kit, try your local Craigslist

Leave it to me to notice the most insignificant thing in the picture, but what kind of belt buckle is that and where did you obtain it?

Oh yeah, and why don't you learn how to play some instruments? Jesus. 25 is not enough.

i've been playing guitar for 15 years. I have a sludge metal band called The Other Side of the Sky. We played in the vain of Isis, Neurosis, and Mogwai... amoungst other things. We recorded our first real album (Hertage) with Steve Austin from Today is the Day at Austin Enterprise a while ago. We got signed to Retribute Records out of the UK and recorded our first label release with Kurt Ballu of Converge at GodCity. To work with both those dudes was a dream come true. Currently, I have turned my back to metal and most rock and am focusing on indy hiphop, producing mostely and trying to become a decent MC. To start my new projects I still have all my guitar and bass guitar toys and amps. And I added a MPC2000xl, a mircrokorg, dr samples, loop stations, alesis mircron and rhodes piano. I am building a ghetto studio so I dont have to be locked into a genre ever again. If you like sludge metal you can check out my band : www.myspace.com/theothersideofthesky

I've been lucky enough to play the bass for coming on 11 years now... most of it jazz training. Ironically, moving to the big city has proven to be my undoing as I am now thoroughly out of the music scene here. Well, excepting the choir I sing in but that doesn't count, does it.

I have continued playing however and current the simplest answer to "how do I rock" is on my brand new upright, shown here:
