It didn't take long for the Arctic Monkeys --MySpace's ultimate poster band-- to notice that life on the road tastes a lot saltier than the sweet smell of their overnight success.

Just days before their North American tour to support Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not commences, the Sheffield band is without bassist Andy Nicholson. Andy will sit out the jaunt due to that ever-popular rock star condition, "fatigue." Nick O'Malley will sub until Andy sleeps it off.

Could this be a direct result of Nicholson's latest post-show drinking competition with Oasis's Noel Gallagher? The tequila slamming got so intense, Noel's lady had to come "rescue him." According to the elder Gallagher brother:

I ended up in [the Arctic Monkeys] after show and the bass player [Nicholson] goes to the bar and comes back with this tray of tequilas.

Normally when somebody asks if you want one you say 'no' but this kid just went up and bought them. I thought, 'I can't be drinking that, it's nearly two in the morning.'

I couldn't say no though because I didn't want to let the side down. He was banging them down. I was about to urinate. I can't remember getting home.

The Arctic Monkeys are also set to make their first feature length film, "a kind of music documentary, with lots of fable and fiction and music," revealed Peter Carlton, head of FilmFour Lab, during the Cannes Film Festival. Their single "When the Sun Goes Down" already inspired a short film about the daring underworld of Britain's forgotten underclass called Scummy Man.

Razorlight's frontman Johnny Borrell recently alleged that the Monkeys are all hype and make inferior music to his band. "So, if you ask me if I feel like a genius compared to them, then yeah, I do," said Johnny.

I'll down a tequila shot in honor of a new Britpop rivalry, so long as it's Patron (or El Tesoro).

i like em, but razorlight are better. Johnny Borrell has a bit of a mouth on him, but then he does have the tunes to back it up.

Yes! How can you argue with the logic of record sales? Except even if they were the fastest selling band ever (they're not), record sales alone wouldn't prove anything with regards to how good they are. Limp Bizkit sold more copies of their Chocolate Starfish album in the first week than these guys did of whatever their shitty album is called, but nobody here is going to tell you that Fred Durst is a musical genius.

yeah sorry my man, you can use good sales to back-up some hype, but if you're using sales to back-up your point about a band being "amazing!!!!!!!!" then there's no point in arguing w/you. bleeeeeah.

I like the music, but I also don't think it's better than other stuff out there. I do know, however, that the music video for "When the Sun Goes Down" was a really well-done music video.

I didn't buy their album(nor have I downloaded it) those are the only sales statistics that I look at when it comes to a band's musical worth.

My best friend punched the lead singer in the face at SXSW. Evidently he had never heard of them before.

Yeah, I've told that story before, but it bears repeating.
