Cell phones are inanimate objects, they can't be obnoxious. People are obnoxious, with or without cell phones.

Cell phones (mobile phones, mobiles or "mobies" over here, the latter used exclusively by utter cunts) are wonderful things- they introduced compulsive geekiness to otherwise socially acceptable humans. It is part of the global spread of Geek Flu which should see the Cool gene eradicated within two generations.

Um... they use this technology to get no show tickets to people who need them at the doors of concerts currently...

sometimes venues set up registries, where they can sell back their tickets to the venue if they can't make it, they then can get the serial number of said ticket and sell at the door...

just not new technology, but ill be happier than a pig in shit if all concerts go this way.

I ranted right here at length about the "solution" for will-call to kill scalping 14 months ago. This inspiration is outdated! bok

"the only way to stop scalpers is to make Ticket Master enforce that all credit card purchases MUST BE WILL-CALL. duh!!"

See, for most shows I find it doesn't really matter. Like, shows at the smaller venues, who cares, because no one's really scalping tickets unless it's a REALLY hot ticket that had unexpected sales (like when the Weakerthans sold out the Grog Shop here), but even then, it's usually not scalping, just people unloading extra tickets.

It's only for really hot tickets that I think you'd need that.

hahah, you mentioned the grog shop. i u sed to go to shows there when i was like.....16.

Strange…I just see it as a useful tool. Granted the cell phone has modified the way we live our lives…just the like the "regular" telephone, and before that the automobile, and before that the train, the wheel, the sharp stick (ETC.)

There were people who's entire identity became focused around the original "horseless carriages"…just as there are obsessive geeks who think the coolest thing on the planet is spending the entire afternoon "texting" their best buddy 20 feet away from them in the mall. Me…I just think it's nice to be able to call for a tow truck from my car, and maybe pull up a web map when I (inevitably) get horribly lost.

The bad news is, obsessive geeks were around (albeit, by a different name) since the dawn of technology (previously annotated "sharp stick") and will be around long after we are all part of the same computerized, conglomerate memory bank. The cell phone, and the denial of said cell phone, has had little effect on that fact, nor is it likely to in the future.

That's been happening in Australia for (as well as I can remember) two or three years. At quite a lot of gigs.

This is a pretty cool twists to concert tickets. Even services as wanttickets and such sites charge service fees. Everyone wants a piece of the action. Ticketbasterds service fees are pretty rediculous (SP?) though. puke
On a side note I have been a longtime jamband music fan. I've followed bands likeThe Grateful Dead and Phish around alot. Alot of these bands have there own ticketing systems for fans. Sometimes the aloted tickets are sold out and then you gotta try ticketmaster. Service fees these bands do charge will donate fees to charity and such sometimes.
Just my two cents GDSTOO which is the Grateful Deads ticketing service has worked fine for me over the past ten years. They even been cool enough to give me front row tickets for a whole summer tour before and backstage passes for shows on my BDay.

BurningKrome saidshockedK...off subject...but what is this neurotic hatred of cell phones?? And don't start with the "I can never be alone" crap. I mean, they DO have off buttons.

I don't hate them so much as I fail to understand the true need for them... I understand it with people who need to be available for jobs and whatnot... or for kids/parents who need to be able to reach each other if they're not together...

but for the most part, it seems to me like something where people are paying for the privelege of doing shit that they would have no need or inclination to do if they didn't have the damn things in the first place... I suppose you could say the same thing about the internet, but still...

Just tack your phone to your wall after each concert now.
