There we were, only a few days ago, reading about how Mr. Bowie needed a year off from music because he was "fed up" with it.

"Boo hoo, I make 1-zillion dollars per minute, every woman, man and child on earth thinks I am hotter than the sun and I can do whatever I want. It sucks to be me. I need a rest!WAAAHHHHHHHH" I don't have the actual transcript of David's quote, but it went something like that. Remember? He's sneaking into the Angelika and watching three Woody Allen movies per day.

Well it seems Bowie was talked into curating the inaugral High Line Music Festival in New York. For all we know he may have been caught sneaking into the movies and offered an ultimatum; either he curate the festival or he would have to canoodle with Mick Jagger in front of ex-wife Angela again. Bowie feigned excitement in a detail-laden statement.

"I've been particularly excited about seeking out emerging artists and giving them a place in a festival that will also feature some very well-known names."

The festival will not only be curated by the Man Who Fell To Earth, but he will also perform. It will be Bowie's first New York show in three years.

The High Line Festival is scheduled for next May, so David's not really a liar, but still. Stop your whining, Dave. Put that energy into producing something kick-ass for us east-coasters.

Once, my cat was just grooving out to a David Bowie concert that was on TV.
After he sang Major Tom I didn't really care any more, but I left it on for Digger. He hadn't reacted like that to any music since Phantom of the Opera.

What's wrong with curating a music festival? I'm sure it's alot less stressful than touring.
Would you be happier if you knew he was just sitting in his mansion atop a pile of money, women and androgynous men, eating caviar with a golden, diamond encrusted spoon while doing nothing at all for his fans?

After about 40 years the man earned himself a break. I have nothing but respect for the man and I think whoever submitted this is a fucking idiot.

i don't really have much to say on topic... but i'll concur with those that said bowie puts on a bitching show. i saw him play the area2 festival a few years back, and he actually went on before moby. the place wasn't even full, but he was having a great time and just nailed it. he's the keenest.

Every show he's done since the sound and vision tour has basically been a lie.

I thought maybe he was planning to retire. surreal

That heart attack he had a couple of years back was pretty serious. I don't think he's really done anything since then... except for the odd "Hello! Yep! Still alive!" appearance.

This new thing sounds a lot like the Meltdown festival in London (which Bowie himself curated in.. 2002?)

The Thin White Dude has built a flourishing and career out of a string of intricately woven deceits of sortsd - he's an actor and as much as a musician or composer or any other type of artist. It's the very same glorious web of lies that has kept me so entertained since my childhood. So what's one more aging rocker saying Goodbye and meaning Till We Meet Again? I've seen The Who, Stones, Clapton, Doobies, Eagles, The Band, etc., each before AND after their farewell tours (sometimes after as many farewell tours as there are Rocky movies). If I were Bowie, I'd probably bow out from time to time. I'm nobody and I stop playing for periods of time just to start fresh and get out of ruts.

+1 love

Also, the time I saw him live felt like nothing short of a religious experience. He does deserve a break, but I'm glad he's back in the saddle, so to speak.

I don't get the humor in it at all. I think you were trying to sound cool by calling out a rock god and everyone totally called you on it. And I concur with others, you sound like a fucking idiot.

Subtle sarcasm + the internet = an audience that "doesn't get it." That's why we have the wink smiley. But that doesn't work for news stories, so you're gonna have to be a bit more clear about what you mean.

what's with the low-lifes writing about stuff they have no idea about lately? It's getting out of hand.

Sounds like author is whining more than Bowie supposedly was.
