Cool Hunting reports the first album from Gnarls Barkley, St. Elsewhere, drops next week. Gnarls Barkley is a collaborative project of Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo from Goodie Mob. Danger Mouse is best known for his mashup of Jay-Z's The Black Album and The Beatles' The White Album: The Grey Album. Cool Hunting describes the Gnarls Barkley sound as "somewhere in between Sly and the Family Stone and Outkast." The video for "Crazy" is an exquisitely cool animated Rorschach homage.

Like Dangermouse's long list of other projects (including The Grey Album, Gorillaz, and DangerDOOM), the loosely conceptual album also boasts some compelling visual counterparts, such as the video for the lauded single "Crazy" pictured above. Based on Rorschach inkblot tests, the Robert Hale-directed video, fluidly morphs (mostly black and white) illustrations that incorporate images of Cee-Lo's bald dome, Dangermouse, flames, spiders, trees, and other imagery.

I fucking love that song "crazy". i haven't heard the rest of the album, but if it's nearly as good as that song I'll be thrilled.

It is as good. The album is well worth the hype. All the songs are pretty short, nothing more than 3 1/2 minutes, but they all have a great vibe, a great energy. They cover Gone Daddy Gone, which TOTALLY surprised me. Gnarls Barkley is crazy.

It's not usually something I'd pick up when I'm music shopping, but I've heard good things and I've yet to meet anyone that doesn't like Crazy.

The samples on iTunes are promising, Storm Coming sounds like it could become a favourite of mine.

anyway, i listened to some of it while i was shopping today. it was perfect music for a rainy day.

I was not dissapointed by my two month anticipation.

i seriously considered going back to the music store i work in at midnight to pick it up (after getting out at 10) but was too tired. so i bought it as soon as i got in this morning. soooo gooooood. we're all digging it at the store, and we've sold quite a few copies for something that's not terribly huge. we were onyl supposed to get five copies but i ordered a bunch more, i just had that feeling.... smile

Yeah at the store I went to I talked to the guy and he said they got more copies than he expected, but then again he had only heard crazy and didn't think it was all that big.

Oh and as I was in line crazy come on the radio station they were listening to in the store.
