In high school I was obsessed with The Lemonheads. So much so, that I blew an opportunity to see Slowdive at CBGB's to see Evan Dando play instead. At the time, It's a Shame About Ray was the perfect album with perfect pop hooks and I thought Dando really understood my crush on a classmate named Jenny. Yes, exactly like Forrest Gump. The follow up to It's a Shame About Ray, Come On Feel The Lemonheads was OK, but didn't hold the magic that Ray did for me, and I started going to hardcore shows and the Lemonheads became a distant but fond memory.

After a lackluster solo outing, Dando reformed the Lemonheads last year and recorded an album (with Bill Stevenson of Black Flag, Descendents and ALL fame), but could not find anyone to put it out, even though the band had a fairly successful run on Atlantic Records. Thankfully, California label Vagrant Records has picked up the band, so there will be some Lemonheads in our future.

Hopefully Dando and the band were able to capture the enthusiasm that made the earlier records so much fun. The as of yet untitled album will hit stores this fall.

I liked Blake Babies in high school, but somehow I could never get into the Lemonheads. I think it might have been Dando's perfectly straight, clean, long hair. Superficial, I know.

what's forgotten is that Dando toured with Bill Stevenson on drums and Karl Alverez on bass (of ALL and the 'DENTS)

I'm a big fan of the 'DENTS and ALL.

it;s a shame about ego rocker dicks

i had a lemonheads cover band in high school called the banana arms. I used to love those guys until i was at an Evan Dando show at the tin angel in philly (1 of less than 35 people) about a year and a half ago and he ripped though a short set without even looking up. after the show he walk by my and by buddy (we were 2 of the 5 people left) and we extended a greeting and he just looked up and blew right past us (though the bar area) with as minimal acknowlegment as possible. when 30 people come to your show and tix are $10, where the fuck do you get off being so unappreciative?

I hated Evan Dando in high school because all the girls I crushed on in high school thought he was hot and I wasn't.

But I'm not bitter! LOL
