Even though I'll probably be crucified for it,
Tool's "Vicarious" sounds very... very similair to their "Schizm"
nah, as a huge Tool fan, it's totally reminiscent of it - come who else didn't start thinking that the pieces fit when they heard it?
other songs:
Bad Religion's "Hopeless Housewife" totally rips off the chours from Tommy Tutone's "Jenny (867-5309)
P.O.S - "POS is Ruining My Life" - i swear i've heard the guitar line before, my buddy thinks UnderOath "It's Dangerous Buisness Walking Out Your Front Door"
Here's one I just noticed tonight. A song off of the Red Hot Chili Peppers new cd (not sure of the title, something about California. It was the first song they played on SNL tonight) sounds just like Tom Petty's "Last Dance With MaryJane." The verse part sounds identical.
"At The River" by Groove Armada sounds almost exactly like "Svefn-g-englar" by Sigur Rós, despite the totally different styles of music. I prefer the Sigur Rós track, personally.
All I can think of is that the beginning of the Crank Yankers theme song (I can't speak for the rest of it because I change the channel once I hear it) sounds like part of the Law and Order theme song, especially the SVU version.
I think Oasis' "Live Forever" kindof rips off Teenage Fanclub's "Alcoholiday." Ok, so they're familiar chords, but it's still the same progression. Course, Oasis became the biggest band in the world, and Teenage Fanclub peaked as a cult-revivalist band, so it doesn't matter, I guess.

On the topic of Nirvana. The main riff to "smells like teen spirit" is totally lifted from Boston's "more than a feeling." It's timed a bit differently, but it's the same riff.
This is a perfect example of when things are not a result of ripping off, but a natural result of tonal harmony /slash/ layout of things on the guitar. As much as I adore Nirvana, Smells like Teen Spirit is a result of them playing a power chord, then playing the durrr same finger shape just moved sideways on the neck of the guitar to the next string... then moving up a minor third (hey that sounds good) and doing the same thing. Pure accident.
It's harmonized differently anyways; when it's not used the same way in context, is it still a ripped off guitar part? *shrug* We'll leave that for the experts
Green Day stole from Wonderwall for Boulevard of Broken Dreams... but that's the most formulaic chord structure ever, so... hmmph.
Phish's "Farmhouse" = No Woman, No Cry. But I have a sneaking suspicion this was done entirely on purpose, as the two can be played simulaneously and match up almost perfectly.

Sounds pretty expert to me. So expert, I had no idea what you're talking about.
