Songs that sound like other songs.

Listening to "Angie" by the Rolling Stones. And it sounds an awful lot like "Hotel California" by The Eagles, chord wise. There are blatant examples of ripping off a song, like Oasis' "Fade Away" stealing from Wham's "Freedom," but i'm thinking of songs that sound supiciously familiar to other ones. I think Neil Young has done this a few times as well.

"It's My Life" by Bon Jovi sounds extremely close to Depeche Mode's "The Policy of Truth"

Whenever I hear the beginning of "You Wear it Well" by Rod Stewart, I think it's about to be "Maggie May"

Well, let's run through the proven cases: George Harrison got busted for "My Sweet Lord" (a rip off of "He's So Fine") and the Doors got busted for "Hello I Love You" ("All Day And All of the Night')

Don't forget Vanilla Ice and Queen/Bowie

the first example should be the other way 'round.
"angie" was found on "goat's head soup," released in 1973.
"hotel califoria" came out in 1976.

and..
every oasis song seems to be "borrowed" from something beatles' related, but since noel's always been so up front about it, who cares anymore...

^^^ damn, you're right. I had placed the Stones song later, for some reason.

I heard something about the Rolling Stones being pissed at Neil Young for "Mr. Soul." It sounds just like 'Satisfaction." And I've always thought that Young's "Like a Hurricane" sounded a lot like Del Shannon's "Runaway." Call me batshit crazy.

yeah, "angie" is kinda out there and different...so it sounds like it could be from any stones' period up until the mid-80s. the only reason i knew is cause i spent yesterday on a road trip w/a friend and we were actually listening to that album...he's been on a stones kick.

a friend of mine pointed out that the intro to "black gold" by soul asylum had the same chords as the big recognizable riff in pink floyd's "run like hell," even though they styles are really different.

The Strokes ripped off the Spyhunter theme (Peter Gunn) in "Juicebox".

YYY's ripped off "Hush Little Baby" on their new album.

the acoustic version of "Pardon Me" by Incubus totally rips off "Love Is On The Way" by Saigon Kick. Same chord progression.

Does it count that every Nickelback song sounds the same?

oh, didn't you watch the vanilla ice behind the music? robbie van winkle cleared it all up...they added one eighth note, so it was totally not even the same song anymore. totally.

I love the Ramones but I think we all can admit...

"An Honest Mistake" by the Bravery and "Blue Monday" by New Order... sounds like the same intro chord progression.... but for some weird reason I hear that Blue Monday progression everywhere

I think everybody knows about hip-hop + sampling..yeah.

Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" and Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life".

Wow, the Jam totally jacks the "Taxman" bass line for "Start!"

The verses on Nerf Herder's "Courtney" and Green Day's "Ha Ha You're Dead" sound a lot alike, but most people probably haven't heard either song anyway

To this day I'm sure KMFDM's "Back in the USSA" has the same chord progression as the Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen"

How about Nirvana's "Come As You Are"? It sounds like a slowed-down version of Killing Joke's "Eighties".

There's this one Elton John song that sounds like an Electric Light Orchestra song... or vice versa. I forget the names, but it always mixes me up when I hear one.

I always thought bush's "little things" sounds like nirvana's "smells like teen spirit." you can even sing the teen spirit lyrics along to bush song.

The beginning of that song Iko Iko sounds just like the beginning of How Soon is Now by The Smiths.
