Everyone's favorite indie site Pitchfork reports that Josh Davis, aka DJ Shadow is hard at work on a new record. The new album is a follow-up to 2002's Private Press (has it really been that long?), and is as of yet untitled. Shadow anticipates that the album will both intrigue and possibly alienate some of his fans.

Stylistically, it's very different from The Private Press. Some have said Press was an inward-looking album. If that's true, than [sic] this album is the opposite, and that suits me just fine. I've also stopped worrying if my changing taste in music costs me fans; life's too short to live in anyone's box, especially if that box is constraining your shine.

Testify. The first single, "3 Freaks", already has a video, which you can watch on Shadow's site ... or by clicking the link below.

Fortunately for all of us, Shadow plans to take his one-man show out on the road again. His touring schedule is usually sparse, so keep your eyes peeled for dates.

After the album comes out I'll probably tour, so you can expect the site to be hopping with tour date information this summer. I don't think, however, that the tour will be on the scale of the 2002/2003 Private Press 'In Tune and On Time' tour. The risk is that I get stuck in a 'BIGGER! BETTER!' kind of mentality, when really I think the time is right to scale back and concentrate on putting a show together that highlights what I'm doing now, rather than an exhaustive retrospective.

In the meantime, two UK dates have been confirmed for the summer. Shadow will be playing The Wireless Fetival in the UK on June 23 (London) and June 24 (Leeds).

Yes, but this is better because it's on vinyl! I can prove it with charts and diagrams.
