I know I'm just asking for a beating for this, but has anybody heard the new Prince album? Is it any good?

Why are you asking for a beating for that? Prince is the shit.

He (and band) were on a repeat of SNL this weekend, I'm assuming they were new songs from the new album. The songs were just okay, but the performances were amazing!

Yeah, I caught that. I totally agree.

Check out some of the other Prince threads, there's always someone who's only heard "Kiss" and thinks that must be all there is to his music.

It's certainly not as inspired as 80's/90's Prince, but it is still an average to slightly good album. One thing Prince hasn't lost is his ability to put on a great show, so I'll be waitng for the 3121 Tour.

It is certainly as good or better than just about every album Prince released in the 90s.

I hope to one day have sex again while listening to a Prince album. I've heard one song off of the new one. It was very good and made me horny.

Yeah. Actually you're right. He released his greatest hits albums as "The Artist" O(+>),

So, I picked it up. There's some really cool stuff on there. (Black Sweat, 3121 in particular) Some of it is taking time to settle in. After I've lived with it for a week or so, I'll post again.

As an aside, Tom Jones did a pretty good cover of "Kiss".

Nothing wrong with a little Prince. Saw him on SNL a few weeks back tearing it up on guitar. Plus, Batdance was easily one of the coolest moments in rock history, as was the soundtrack:

There are two major, much-loved artists I haven't gotten around to really checking out: Bowie and Prince. Can someone recommend the most accessible Prince album? Something that'll knock me the fuck out and make me fall in love (hopefully).

For you, I'd go with Dirty Mind.

Actually, even better would be to get "The Hits I" and play the middle 6 songs (When you were mine, Uptown, Lets Go Crazy, 1999, I could Never Take the Place of Your Man, and Nothing Compares to You) over and over again. If you're not into modern R&B at all, there will always be a couple of songs that you won't dig on any of his albums.

Thirded. The second song they played was a little meh, but the first one was one of the best musical performances on SNL ever.

Awesome. I'm downloading both now. Let's see if I can't get some Prince love going.
