There is a clever and witty answer to this. I just don't know what it is.

Pfft. Australia is always way ahead of both Britain and the US. You guys'll be wearing stubbie shorts, thongs and blue singlets in a few seasons. Watch it happen.

British JAZZ?!?!? What the fuck are you talking about?

Can you really name a single British Jazz artist as good or as famous as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy, Max Roach, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk, Sun Ra, Pharoah, Ornette Coleman, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sonny Rollins...I could go on.

British JAZZ?

I really must concur with PB... British Jazz?!

I've never heard of any of the musicians in the British jazz Wikipedia entry.

Also, we beat them on folk, country, polka, Afro-Cuban jazz, hip-hop and minimalism.

And we were neck and neck with them in punk until it started to suck.

Yeah well, a lot of those names lingered in obscurity among white American audiences until given a touch of foreign chic, via Brit appreciators.

And then there's acid jazz.

Always happens the same way... some one name drops it and then people swarm.
