Can't wait for this movie to come out. Great reviews coming from Sundance. I Just saw the trailer in the theater, and it looks fantastic (unlike the trailer for the Brian Jones movie, which looks like a mess).

Devil and Daniel Johnston site.

I saw this last year at a press screening with a Q & A aftterwards and it was fantastic, watching it will add a whole new level of pathos to his music. Absolutley one of the highlights of 2005 for me and I think even people who don't really know his music will find it interesting and watchable.

holy crap
i just got back from a pre release screening of this gem of a film

the direction is amazing and the amount of arcival footage is huge and it is just mind numbing to think of them going through so much of it to make this film

i high recommend seeking this out

if you have any interest in lo-fi music or mental health issues i recommend it even more

here is a link if you know little of daniel:

for as much as i knew of him, this film gave me easy 1000 times more

it was easily my favorite documentary this year and just film so far, easy top 5 for the year.

Isn't it great? I have been itching for other people to see it as I saw it last May, it seems to be taking ages to get a release. So good, one of my favourite films in a long while.

I just saw the documentary.
I almost want to ascribe some blame to his parents for shaping his mania in regards to his religious demons, but they did so much for him as well.

Sort of painful to watch, but very good.

And I think my fucking Daniel Johnston album is in Ohio. Damnit.

Should be interesting. My little brother is about eighty times more hip than me and I've heard some wild stories from him about the man--like the time he and his dad were in some little plane, his dad flying, and he suddenly became convinced that his dad was Satan and grabbed the keys out of the plane ignition and threw them out the window? Interesting.

Yep, that's in the film. Actually, evidently he thought he was Caspar the ghost and wanted to parachute (it makes sense in context), but they didn't have parachutes so he decided to crash the plane.

So I ended up talking to my little brother about that movie the other day. He asked if I'd seen it, I said no, then asked if he ever got a chance to see it. Yes, he said. Oh, I said, how was it?

"Um . . . He's probably a bit more insane than I initially realized. It was good, though. Really good."

Kind of cracked me up.
