Okay I have gotten myself into a situation and I need some help!
My mom is having a baby shower for me this Saturday and has
asked that I provide some music on my PC so she doesn't have to bring her stereo. The thing is, I don't know what the hell to play.
I listen to alot of different music but nothing I believe would be appropriate for this event. I don't exactly want to play 3 Inches of Blood for these people, although I want to. I have nice slow calm music but it's all romantic ballads such as Jeff Buckley. So, my question is what should I play for a large group of strict Christian women ranging from 30 to 75 years old???? I don't wanna put them to sleep, but I also don't want to get their panties in a bunch. Please help. frown

I consider most all emo' music to be "strummy bullshit" with distortion.
smile That's besides the point though.

Hmm, you have women born in 1931 and women born in 1976? Why not sign up for Rhapsody? You can stream every conceivable genre and era of music, and they have a ton of special "radio" stations you can just leave on. It's $10 a month, but there's probably a free trial period of some kind. Or you can pay for a month, then cancel...

Peggy Lee, Patti Page, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Louis Prima, Billie Holiday...all kept the elderly Christian folk happy when I was in a similar situation. None of that music is particularly, uh, pure, but it's not 2 Live Crew, either. It seemed to go over well.

My mom loves stuff like: Earth, Wind, and Fire; Jeff Buckley, Steely Dan, Dire Straits, and a whole bunch of really bad faux Jazz (e.g. the Rippingtons, Acoustic Alchemy)

Considering that wide age gap, it could be difficult. You might stick with 60's and 70's rock or pop. Although, those adult contemporary stations seem to play everything from The Backstreet Boys to more recent top 40 stuff. You can't go wrong with the Beatles, especially with older women... smile

I think some strict Christians would get down to it, even if all that constitutes is talking finer points of theology and faith slightly louder and faster than normal.

Introduce her to stuff you can deal with (even like) that she likely has not embraced:

Fiona Apple, Jill Scott, Julee Cruise, Jack Johnson, Jesus and Mary Chain
