Most of the comments in this very thread indicate that there is indeed a middle ground.

Well, this thread seems to be the exception rather than the rule. It's good that there is a middle ground though.

If you are not into his music I have no problem with that but if you don't lilke the music because you don't like the man you are cutting of your nose to spite your face.

The problem is a lot of his personal, ah, idiosnycricities do harm the work. As noted before, if he'd taken the bunch of songs he wrote for the 3 albums he released this year, picked out the best ones, and worked on those more, instead of putting out three albums, he'd have had a really great album. But he seems to take it as a point of pride that he can put out so many albums.

So it's not an either/or thing. The fact that he's kind of a douche really does hurt his work.

He bores me. I saw him live once and he just seemed really coked out and stuck on himself. I wanted to like it, really! I tried

i like some of his earlier stuff, but i think he's one of those guys who believes his own press, but only reads the good reviews. the music's fine, but the guy is a bit of a dick.

Rock N Roll was excellent. He should experiment more like that record did. He has an amazing vocal range. I also dig that Beth Orton song he's on.. umm... Concrete Sky. He, for sure, shouldn't put out 30 diluted alt-country tunes in one year's time.

IlovehimIlovehimIlovehim!!!!

Almost every other journal entry I have mentions him somehow.

I remember reading a review saying rock n roll was terrible and heartbreaker was his best album. Pffft. I like heartbreaker, but I think demolition is my favorite. Cold Roses is also pretty awesome.

If I ever met him I would hug him, even if he doesn't like his fans.
