+/- $165 for 2 days
+ I was there in 2004, loved it.
- Only 5 bands each day that I really like/want to see (none of them are the headliners, unlike 04)
+ Gives me a chance to discover more bands
- Travel/lodging/per diem expenses
Bonnaroo:
+/- $169.50 for 3 days
+/- Never been
+ More bands I like playing
+ Have seen the headliner before (Radiohead)
+ Gives me a chance to discover more bands
+/- Some bands playing here that aren't at Coachella, though some bands playing at Coachella that aren't playing here
- Farther away
- Travel/lodging/per diem expenses
I did Bonnaroo a few years ago. The camping was fun - had as much fun just partying around the campgrounds as seeing the bands. There was a bit too much "jam band" atmosphere for me, but on the plus side, the drugs were excellent and abundant.
there's nothing i hate more than a granola eating, patchouli smelling, hemp cloth sporting, uneducated-yet-still-thinks they're intelligent and can hold political/social debates, tree hugging dirty hippy.
but i might have to mark bonaroo in the calendar. its worth the trip for radiohead alone.
Bonn-a-fuckin-roo! I'll be there with all the good drugs and hippies. And one overpriced watered-down light beer is on me, if you decide to make the trek.
There's maybe three bands worth seeing at Bonnaroo (amadou and miriam being the only one I'd go out of my for). That said, outdoor concerts have terrible sound anyway, so I'd choose the place with the best drugs.

On second thought, you'd have to kill me to get me to go to a show with G Love and Special Sauce, Phil Lesh (& Friends!!!), or Blues Traveler.

Bonnaroo looks amazing this year, but quite like Coachella, actually.
I agree. But I think that if I had to choose I would go with Bonnaroo this year because of Bright Eyes, Matisyahu, The Dresden Dolls, Radiohead,Medeski Martin and Wood, and Buddy Guy.
For me Coachella is really intense. I only have a few years before I won't be able to take the bullshit that goes down (assholes in the camping ground (I prefer to camp), no outside food or water, the heat). If Bonnaroo is as mellow and chill as I've heard it to be, I would prefer to go to that. Due to the money, I'll be staying on the west coast this year. One day I'd like to go to the Bonnarooapalooza.
i reallly want to go to Bonnaroo this year...but my wife will be 8 months pregnant at that point, so it's probably not wise to bring her to a 3-day hippie jam festival.
I went to Roo '04, the biggest they've ever had, and it was an excellent time. I've never been to Coachella, but guarantee that, commodified as it's become since inception, it is nowhere near as commercial as Coachella. And the Farm in Manchester is simply excellent.
BUT:
Fuck 'em both! Go to WAKARUSA in Lawrence, KS. It's really laid back and has been heralded as the last true music festival, as well as the best in the nation. I've been twice, and planned to go again this year, but they ran out of volunteer spots and I am poor.
Seriously: Best bang for your buck is at Wakarusa.
Old bump... I'm leaving for Nashville Monday and heading to Manchester early Wed morning. I'll be set up at the poster tent in Centeroo pretty much 11AM - 2AM everyday. Come say hi,.
