I'm pretty excited about the Raconteurs. All four of the members are brilliant on their own, together they seem absolutely amazing.
There's been word going around that they're planning on playing smaller venues, so it may not be too expensive to see them when they tour in May/June/July. Yay!

did the white stripes officially break up?
No, but I'd put money on their next record being their last.
Really? I think The White Stripes are going to last longer than most bands we listen to today. Jack and Meg White were made to be in a band together.
I say that partly as personal opinion, partly from observation. Jack started making noises like the Stripes were ending before 'Elephant' was released, and about a year after that he said he wasn't enjoying working within the band anymore. For a while there were rumours that their fifth record was going to be their last. Recording '...Satan' was a pretty strenuous task according to Jack, and they almost scrapped the album. All that points to them coming to the end of their run, although judging from Jack & Meg's on stage chemistry things have probably gotten better.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love for the Stripes to keep going forever, so long as they're making good music. But I think that when things start to become stale (and let's face it, with a band as simplistic & limited as the Stripes that can happen quickly) Jack will pull the plug. Gonna miss seeing the Stripes on tour though. They're absolutely explosive live.
At least when the Stripes break up we'll probably still have The Raconteurs.
