I'm too lazy to read all of these. So I don't know if it's been mentioned. The first one I thought of was The Ramones "I Don't Want to Grow Up" (Tom Waits).

Odd, I had no idea The Ramones did a cover of that song.

Not as good as the original, but it's not bad.

Springsteen also wrote "Fire" for Robert Gordon and later The Pointer Sisters.

He actually wrote it for Elvis Presley...sent a demo to him, but Elvis died before he could do anything with it. Then he gave it to Robert Gordon.

Tom Sawyer by Mindless Self Indulgence is a Rush tune

Uh, wow, I could never think of anyone but Rush doing that song.

Edit: And now that I've heard it... surreal

I don't think it's a big mystery that Lionel Ritchie is the originator of it, but I always liked Faith No More's cover of "Easy (Like Sunday Morning)"

Take It Easy - Eagles (Jackson Browne)

Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey co-wrote the song, and Browne's version came out a year after the version recorded by Eagles.
