a great listing of rip offs aimed at audio phreaks. My favorite? The "Intelligent Chip"

The Intelligent Chip is a one inch square, bright orange plastic wafer that, when placed on top of a compact disc player for 2-3 seconds, upgrades the disc (CD, DVD or SACD) being played at the time. The sound of the upgraded disc has more detail and articulation, better dynamics and an absence of "digital harshness." Voices are more human-sounding and less synthetic. The upgrade is permanent. Inside the white translucent Intelligent Chip case are two ultrathin, clear polycarbonate sheets, one on each side of the Chip. The manufacturer's product brochure states, "The Intelligent Chip should be put back into the packing case after using, because the packing case can protect the quantum material of the Intelligent Chip, preventing them from leaking."

If I spent 30,000 dollars on speaker wire, I'd probably act like it was amazing no matter what anyone said.

The funny thing is that audio engineers - the guys who produce the albums these systems playback - generally scoff at most of this shit as being nonsense. So, a consumer needs to spend 100K on his monitoring system, but a producer doesn't? Something's whacky here.

You're not going to get that bass without the TK-147 modification. And we can install that right here in the store, for a small extra charge.

Doesn't it curl up in your belly, make you wanna freaky-deaky? Go on, move with it. It helps me.

Maybe this is why so many records sound so shitty- those engineers need to get off their lazy asses and pony up the $30k. I heard some of them don't even use hi-fi speakers in their control rooms!

I love one-way speaker cables and interconnects the most. That shit cracks me up.

EDIT from http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/mit_oracle_v21.htm

I've reviewed a smorgasbord of accomplished cable designs over the last year or so, and while none has cost as much as Oracle v2.1, none has also impressed me as much either. ... It's clear to me that the most expensive cables I've heard are also the best. ...

AAHAHAHAH.... that about sums it up right there, doesn't it?

The Silver Rock Transformer Potentiometer.

Demo Silver Rock Potentiometers are available for a 7 day trail. Please make sure you have amble time for evaluation before requesting one.

Absolutely. It's a 7 day trail, so leave lots of time for ambling.

Music should not be listened to in a stationary position after all. That's not what a true audiophile would do.

Hehe, a great thing to notice about most of this gear is its prominent LABEL.

"What?!? This is a SQUIBLIST PERFORMANCE CRAPTASTI-CABLE!#($ CAN'T YOU HEAR THE DIFFERENCE?!"

By "difference" of course, they mean "amount of money I paid"

the intelligent chip-- it's made of quantum materials. which means, I think, it's made of pure atoms.

cable elevators-- they coated porcelain with a non-conductive glaze.

$485 knobs-- holy fuck.
