He's like Tom Waits, in that he almost always has an incredibly original way of looking at things. Like, listen to "Be My Number Two". Fucking amazing relationship song with a very unique take. Here's to Joe Jackson!
Two Luchas and a robot for Joe Jackson!
And not these Joe Jacksons, you smartass bastards:
Actually interviewed him for SG a few years ago. Really cool guy, if a bit prickly at first. "Why do you want to talk to me?"
In retrospect, I'm embarassed at how little I knew about him going into it. I only got really into him after the interview. Going into it, all I knew was that he was a legend who had a new album out and I could maybe get an interview with him.
I really like his first three records, especially "Got the Time" and "I'm the Man" and "Amateur Hour".
When I used to run a cd store, almost every employee that started there would put Joe Jackson cds in the soul section...out of confusion with his name.
That said...Joe Jackson is quite awesome. I have a few of his cds and picked up his two disc best of anthology a while ago, remastered versions of his songs are even better.
