Theres a couple of bands that wrote amazing music while destroying their lives by using heroin. Depeche Mode and Ministry come to mind. Now that they are drug free their music is not what it used to be. Doest anyone have any other bands like that.

Im not saying they should go back to using drugs. Just that their music was at their peack when they were using it. Im my opinion of course wink

Well, I don't know much about Ministry, but uhhh... Depeche Mode was cool in the 80s because it was the 80s. What bands that were cool in the 80s that are still cool now? Are there any?

I think their decline has pretty much nothing to do with drugs.

I think Depeche Mode is one of the few bands that didn't become shadows of their former selves.

Did Sonic Youth take drugs? They always said they never did drugs to write their songs but sometimes it is just so hard to believe. Im sure their first albums were some drugs around somewhere.

See I think, drugs have some done good things for us. I really do. And if you don't believe drugs have done good things for us. Do me a favor, go home tonight, take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your CDs, and burn them. 'Cause you know what? The musicians who made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years? Reeeeeeeal fucking high on drugs. --Bill Hicks

There ain't nothin' funny about a drunk. You know, I was really starting to believe that there was something amusing and wonderfully American about a drunk. I ended up telling myself to cut that shit out. --Tom Waits

While all of that is probably true, the personalities of musicians aren't as especially compelling to me, personally, as the music they create - especially when they're on lots of drugs. The way I look at it, as long as they're doing all the drugs, they permit me to sit back and enjoy their art without my having to ingest a thing - although it doesn't usually hurt to be somewhat chemically influenced.

No they didn't.

Why is it so hard for some people to grasp the concept of imagination at work in art? whatever

I still think Duran Duran still kicks butt. Even for an "80's" band.
