I was driving home from work today, and the enigmatic radio decided to play that one song from back in the day by The Soup Dragons. Once I got over being horrified that I recognized a song by The Soup Dragons, I thought about how very little we, as a society today, give any recognition to the dance pop of the early 1990s. Is it too soon for them to be retro? Must we wait until 2010 to look back on them with foggy memories (if at all) and only mildly-embarrassed fondness, the way we do for Wham! or Dead Or Alive? Nay, I say: let us celebrate them now! Lest they be forgotten in their entirety.

Soup Dragons, you're free!

EMF, you're unbelievable!

Jesus Jones, your time is RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!

Now, WHO'S WITH ME?

They do... you know... that one song.... there's some people singing... they go something like "I'm free to do what I want, any old ti-i-i-i-ime!" I think it's against the law for Early 90s White-Boy Dance Pop to have more than one song on the radio ever.

And how about Happy Mondays?

I know they started in the 1980s so maybe they don't count, but I know that they didn't get super(relatively)popular until the album Thrills'n'Pills'n'Bellyaches which came out in 1990, because that's when my mother decided to wreak hell on my life by playing it almost every damn day for months. We've had several heated discussions lately, because she refuses to believe that Shaun Ryder has turned into the fat fucker in Gorillaz' "DARE" video.

and these should be the best days of my life,
Life, it's not what I thought it was.

Oh wow, look at me now,
I'm building up my problems to the size of a cow.
